Full Face mask for high pressure and bearded man

Post by jollor » Wed Jun 06, 2018 10:06 pm

I've been using a nasal mask with a chin strap. Unfortunately I still get a high leak every night. Eventually my mouth opens sometime in the night no matter what. The doctor says I need to use a full face mask but the only one I have will not seal. I have a Resmed F20 with the silcone mask and I also bought the Memory Foam mask neither will seal properly. Part of the problem is I have a high pressure of 20/25 and a goatee. Anybody know of a mask that would work in these situations.

FFMs won't seal on a beard, just isn't gonna happen.

After having a beard for over 30 years, I shaved it off the day of my sleep study and have never looked back since. I have now been clean shaven for over three years and no longer miss the beard.

The F&P Simplus FFM comes highly recommended from me but you're still going to struggle with a full on goatee...I think that's pretty much incompatible with a good seal.

Beard texture may have an effect on mask compatibility.
Soft, silky hair lies down better than wiry, fluffy face fur, and especially deep stubble.
Oh, the problems of the men! Girls have trouble too.
I have had broken hair and cheek ditches--but it has never tempted me to give up my beauty sleep.

I shaved it close to the skin with a beard trimmer and I still had to push the mask down till the sides basically crumpled before the green smiley face said I was okay. I tried sleeping that way but it was so tight it was like the mask was on my skull.

That's not 'shaved'. that's thousands of little pillars holding the mask off your skin, so that air can blow out all around, like wind through the forest.

Hi Jollor,
I have a beard and have successfully used the old style Quattro for over 5 years. I do use home-made mask liners. The Quattro FX uses the same double silicone cuff...and I believe it's still available. My pressures are way lower then yours though. Good luck...

I have a full beard because I portray Santa during the Christmas season.

I use a Simplus full face mask and it does great. It is a little tighter than most wear it but I get very few leeks with it. The Dr. said I would have difficulties getting a good seal but that was not so.

Been using bPap for about 13 years now. Full beard. Have had very good luck sealing with Mirage Quatro masks. First, the FX, then the Pro, and now the Air. Very happy with the Quatro Air, bought about a month ago. Have tried several other ffm's, and not been happy with them. Just my experience.

I too used the F&P Simplus when I had a beard and leaks were not a problem.

I too have a full beard. I too am a mouth breather. I used the F20 but had to many leaks. I found this product that works really well. I do recommend it.

Also, I switched to the Dreamwear FFM and it has cut substantially down the leaks to under 10 L/ml per night.

I've got a beard. Not a long one really, and I shave the moustache area, so it's more like a very full chin strap... or something.

Mine seals fine over the beard. Mine leaks over my nose and cheeks where I DO shave. Not badly.

I use an F&P Simplus currently.
