bridge of nose sore

Post by sleeper101 » Sun Feb 04, 2007 4:40 pm

This is my first post I here. I just started using cpap one week ago. The first few nights my eyes were very swollen underneath after use. I loosened mask and that seemed to solve that problem. Now I have a sore on the bridge of my nose. I put a bandaid on nose before using cpap last night but wondered if any other user have experienced this problem and had advice as to solution.
Thanks,
Sleeper101

And please complete the equipment section of your profile. We can help more if we know what equipment you are using.

Good Luck.

Okay, here is another link - to help with the mask fit.

Also, what is your titrated pressure?

What pressure is your machine set at?

Are you having apneas at your setting?

Do you know how to access the data that is stored nightly?

Nice machine by the way. Good Job.

I have no idea how to access the data that is stored nightly didn't even know that was an option with my machine. Not sure if I am having an apnea's but if so they are not waking me up that I am aware of. My pressure is set at 9 but sometimes feels too low like I am not getting enough air in the middle of the night. I am taking machine in next week to check pressure stability.

I had to go back and look at machine for correct model. I have the resmed compact S8. I don't think it has anyway to check daily data but that would definately be a plus.
Thanks for your help.

My first guess would be the the mask is too tight. Most masks fit loosely on the face and when the pressure kicks in they sort of "float" on the face like a hovercraft. The hard plastic doesn't actually contact the face. You could also fiddle with the adjustments take the pressure off the bridge of the nose. My old mask had an adjustment that put some pressure on pads up on the forehead. The masks do take some fiddling to get right.

I experienced exactly this problem with the Activa Shallow cushion and the Comfort Gel Small masks. You may need a different size (bigger) or a different mask altogether. Also, it may simply be adjusted too tightly, but if it starts leaking whenever it's looser, seems like it just doesn't fit.

Fiddle with all the adjustments even if you don't think they'll do anything. You'd be surprised.

My Activa was too loose,

and I went from the shallow to the Large. I also got 3 M microfoam tape and put it across the bridge and made the mask tight enough so that it doesn't hover and move. That's what worked for me.

....what ca_hosehead said, and to that I would add:
Definitely use some Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape over the affected area of your nose. It's better than a band-aid, and it comes off easier in the morning. It comes in a roll dispenser that looks like a roll of Scotch tape. You can get it almost anywhere, but I think WallyWorld has the best price on it.
The UMFF is one of the very best masks out there, and you owe it to yourself to give it a good try. Just remember that NO MASK works for everyone.
