Problems with the mask

Post by Taheerah » Tue Apr 03, 2018 11:15 pm

Dear all,

In the last months we had various issues with the CPAP machine and the mask. We have purchased a new 'Philips Amara Gel Full Face CPAP Mask' since our old one broke but even though it is the same size and model my husband complains that the fit is different and it is leaking. This has resulted in us getting absolutely no sleep over the course of the week. :-(

As suggested by some of you, we have purchased some items from Padacheeks such as the mask liner and the snuggle hose, etc. but after weeks it still hasn't arrived to our country yet so I am hoping that once they arrive this help the therapy somehow.

Has anyone of you ever experienced this when changing to a new mask and is there anything we can do? I have been informed that masks cannot be exchanged but surely if it is a different fit, Philips should assist us?

I would highly appreciate your insights as always.

While waiting for the padacheek liners, you can make some temporary ones out of an old t-shirt. Outline the mask cushion on a piece of paper, then cut the liner out of the t-shirt.

I’ve tried many masks and I fell in love with the resmed Quattro mirage! Very little issues if any with leaks! I’ve also heard that when you fall asleep (especially if you are a back sleeper) your jaw relaxes and slides back slightly! This can create a seal break but some have solved with with a mouth guard that you boil and form to your mouth that has a removable plug between the top and bottom teeth (meant for martial arts) and wear this to prevent that seal break. If you have any questions just let me know! Hope this helps

If you are interested in trying to make a mask liner, you can find a pattern for the liner at this site:
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotton-mask-liner.pdf

I used this pattern to make mask liners out of an old well-worn tee shirt. The pattern will work for small or medium masks, and can be enlarged for large masks. The hole in the center can be enlarged, just be sure to leave enough material to go under the edges of the mask.

Hi all,

Thank you so so much.

In regards of the liner, we will make sure to try it tonight. This is a great suggestion.

Concerning the mouthpiece would it be possible for you to send me something similar online so I can have a look if we can order it.

I will try one step at a time as my husband is extremely uncomfortable with the treatment and I am really hoping that he will end up getting used to it somehow.

The mask might be a good option for our next purchase.
