What mask are you successfully using?

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

I've been using the F&P HC 431 FF at a pressure of 14 for a while now. I've added an extra strap under the chin to stop leaks in the that area. Last night I went back to the old Comfort Gel as an experiment and it seemed to hold up pretty well under that pressure.

I just bought one of those thru cpap.com, but the air seems really cold to me. I don't have a humidifier...would an Aussie heated hose help without humidity? Seems that at the higher pressures the air blows so hard it would be hard to warm up any. Am I right?

I ran for 12 months on 15 CMS & found I was able to use a UMFF mask but did go through bouts of squeaks & leaks.

Eventually I turned my CMS down to 13 & have had few of those types of problems since.

When on 15 CMS I did try a modified Adams Circuit but always found I needed to lower the CMS anyway when using a nasal mask (too much air flow for me).

Good luck

(14 CMS always seemed to me to be the threshold for leaks & squeaks)
xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)

My auto bipap runs at pressures of 13-19. I have had good luck with the Mirage Activa. My heated humidifier does warm the air. If the heat is too high, the air seems overly warm. I vary the heat setting between 2 and 3, depending on the temperature of the room air.

My APAP is set between 14.5 and 18 and the 90% pressure average runs about 15.8. With my deviated septum, I don't feel like I get enough air if I'm the least bit congested. My right nostril is wide open and the left one hardly works. It makes for hard or disturbed sleeping usually 1 to 3 nights a week,

Yes, the aussie hose will heat the air. Not terribly warm just comfortably, for me anyway.

Pressure 23/18cm H2O

Post by TonyL » Sat Jan 20, 2007 6:17 pm

I was at 18 on cpap and recently three weeks ago to 23/18cm H2o using Resmed VPAP III with Ultra Mirage Full Face medium. I found washing with warm water with a wash cloth just before laying down and letting my face air dry I get a good seal. My wife says I mostly stay on my back and she reads for almost an hour with out hearing any leaks except the air coming out of the exhaust vent. She says it is quieter than the nasual mask I used previous when just on CPAP. I also found cleaning the liner that touches your skin every day and letting it air dry helps too.

I've only been a hosehead for a little less than a week, but at a BiPAP setting of 23/19, the Puritan Bennett Dreamfit nasal mask has been working well for me so far, with no leaks. I started off using a Respironics Profile Lite, but was getting some leakage at the sides of my nose. I did not try the boiling water/reshaping approach for the Profile Lite cushions

Just in case a sizing comparison helps, the medium in the Profile Lite was right for me, while it takes a large for the Dreamfit.

I hope you find one that works for you. What I'm understanding here is that every mask fits every person a little bit differently.

I am using a nasal mask at pressure of constant 15. I have been fairly successful for a new user. Still have to get the AI and other lower. I had to really be in the bed and let the mask expand with full pressure before adjusting. I have taken the cpap off of ramp intirerly, so I can get things adjusted and off to sleep.

I think tonite I'm gonna set it on CPAP and 15 and see what kind of nite I have. I think the pressures going up might be waking me up. See how it goes. Everyone have a pleasant nite.

I forgot to say that I tried nasal pillows (Swift) and found that they felt GREAT at lower pressures, but when the pressure gets high, my nose feels like a big inflated balloon.

High Pressure Masks ?

Post by 53now » Sat Jan 20, 2007 10:19 pm

Well ...........after 6 years of BiPap treatment (still using the same machine issued to me back in November of 2000) The Activa works best for me pressure setting of 16/11.
I wash it every night with warm water & Ivory soap..... I also put cotton in my ears ... to drown out any noise or leaking sounds... Hey , it works for me

Hi Jeff,

My titrated pressure is 14 cms and I use a Swift 11. I do get some leaks but my AHI are still undercontrol and I'm waking up feeling good so i don't worry about it. I use the Resmed Humidaire 3 and find it is TOO warm if I crank it right up.

Good luck

Peter
