I must be going mental

Post by jackr » Wed Jan 17, 2007 12:48 pm

First let me say thanks to all the kind and giving members of this forum. I have learned a tremendous amount.

Anyway, I went to the sleep center for my first visit. I was told by the technician that she couldnt tell me the results but if I had OSA I would have to come back for a second night.

So before I left in the morning I asked her " I know you cant tell me the results but I was wondering if I would ever have the pleasure of seeing you again?"

She said to me "oh yeah, you'll be back"

So I thought it was nice of her to indicate that to me. But here is where I am going mental, ever since I now know I have OSA I am more tired then ever! Nothing has changed but the knowledge that I have a sleeping disorder

Anyway although I am not looking forward to wearing a mask to sleep the rest of my life nor am I looking forward to going through the what I need to to get comfortable with it, I am excited about feeling better.

Hang in there, jackr. You made it this far without treatment and hopefully your sleep doc will jump on this fairly quickly. By the way, I asked the technician that same question after my first night and she said that there were some minor incidents but I probably wasn't a candidate for treatment. Two weeks later the sleep doc told me the exact opposite. Go figure.

HI jackr, Sorry I couldn't resist! Now is time to become informed, it is better to be armed with knowledge, because it's doubtful the people you will have to deal with down the road will be. They will have their best interest at heart not yours.

If you want to take control of your treatment you will need a machine that keeps records and the software to read it. A APAP is best and it gives you more options, and can be set a CPAP if that's wanted. The people that you will be dealing with will want you to use the dumbest machine they have, so they can make more profit, it pays to be informed and stick up for yourself, if that's what you want to do. I agree guys and thanks. THat is why I am on the forum now. I have spent a lot of hours reading and plan on taking things in my own hands. Especially since I am not covered by insurance ( and can afford any machine available) , I have no reason to be pushed around.

This seems nuts to me.

When I had my one and only sleep study back in '99 or '00 about half way thru the night they came in and put me on a CPAP machine. Got the info they needed, and set me up.

Why are they doing two night studies now?

It is probably a liability or insurance issue since a doctor and not a technician needs to be involved.

By the way, I like your avatar, I am a dead head from way back.

Yeah, I am one of the lucky ones. A lot of my friends didn't make it. (for obvious reasons)

I cleaned up my act in '87 and have been on the straight and narrow ever since.

In a way you are lucky, All you need is the Script, You can send it to the online store and get what you need fast.

https://www.cpap.com/, is who most of us here use, they are fast and honorable, and they allow us to use this forum to spread the needed info on XPAP. The prices are hard to beat, but the main thing they are reliable.

As far as equiptment, what I am using at the bottom of my post is about all one needs, The mask is the hardest to get right, I started with the ComfortFull and later went to nasal. With Nasal you have to control leaking air out of your mouth when asleep, if you don't the treatment doesn't work.

With the FF Mask you just have to worry with small leaks and fit. I had INS, but I got the APAP here and never looked back. Jim

goofrpoof,
the apap machine you have doesnt do c flex in apap mode is that correct? Do you find you need that? I know that for $5 more there is the m series auto by resporonics that will do it. I was seriously thinking of going with that one.

Jackr

You asked about c-flex. Each one of us is different, but I need c-flex. Just can't seem to exhale without it. You will know after you have had your next sleep study with the machine.

Good Luck! and Welcome!
Wishing you dreams!!!
