OT: Big Guy Needs Accurate Scale

Post by telly » Sun Jan 14, 2007 2:08 pm

My weight really sprialed up over the past few years. When I last saw a gal pal from Japan, she said:

"Terry-San, you scared me, I did not recognize you."

YIKES.

I think at my height I was around 275 pounds (my norm is around 210). I've dropped a wee bit in the last couple of weeks on xPAP and hitting the gym and want to track my progress more accurately.

I bought an attractive scale from HomeMedics. It's a digital one on a plate of plexi-glass. Since I am a big boy, the plexi flexes too much so any slight sway sends the scale into a sprial of innacuracy.

Anyone out there have a recommend for a good solid scale? I think I will go for a mechanical one, as I don't trust the digital ones after buying this one.

The HomeMedics is going on eBay. .

Go to a store that sells several brands and models of digital scales and try them. I am also full figured and I have a digital scale that works great. I got my scale from Hammacher Schlemmer but I have seen the same model at other stores.

Sam's Club has one, I just got it three weeks ago. It seems accurate, goes to 330 lb, digital works by strain guages. It's like a piece of glass and Chrome Bars 000.0 lb output about $30.

The only problem I see with it is you have to be study standing on it or it comes up Error. As with all scales you need a flat solid floor, no carpet. Jim

I've paid more for scales and gotten much worse. Mine is Item 3506.

I have a homedics too but it isnt glass. it is very solid and accurate. i did search on comparing scales and this one was best. it also measures body fat and % body water but I havent really been keeping track of that. Maybe they would let you trade if you explain your problem. good luck

Tanita makes great scales. I've had the same one for about 3 years now. Very accurate with all bells and whistles. Do a search on Google.

I found the name brand on my scale, it is "Thinner" and has a 330 # limit. The deck on mine is a slab of glass, perhaps a half inch thick -- and it doesn't flex.
