Snoring on C-Pap

Post by Ichabod » Fri Jan 12, 2007 7:09 am

I have mentioned this before but I think my machine gets weak as the night progresses. I get the feeling that it looses pressure over night. I do not feel air moving through the filter on the exhaust port of my mask in the morning, but air does blow through at night.

I was told that it was in my head, that we become accustomed to it and that many of you feel the same sensation in the morning... Low pressure.

Well...

I woke myself up last night snoring. When talking to my wife, she has noticed that I have been snoring for at least a month or so. I guess I indeed have a problem. Do you recommend dealing with Apria or try for another titration study?

You could call your doctor and see if he/she is willing to up the pressure a little to see if this eliminates the snoring (and maybe temporarily avoid another sleep study).

The way to check XPAP function is to order a Manometer and keep it hooked up to your hose, and see what's it puting the pressure at.

However it normal to become used to the pressure and not feel it, but the mask exhaust should be the same all night on CPAP. Not the same on APAP. Jim

Ichabod, have you checked and double checked to make sure you machine is not set up in "split night" mode? (and it's possible that your machine won't do a "split night").

Here is a link to read about that and how to change it (if possible)

And rather than another titration study, talk to your DME to see if he will put you on an Auto for a couple of weeks. That will give you a 90% pressure for your straight cpap.

Also, how are you coming with changing your Plus out? Perhaps the DME will persuade Apria to switch you out to an Auto and not the Pro.

Ichabod, what are you doing to stop your mouth breathing?
That is the first problem. All the sleep studies in the world won't help you if your mouth is leaking. If you have been snoring for a month you have been at least a month without therapy.
If you have an alternative to Apria, you'll be a lot better off. If not, you may have to buy a mask online. Once you have covered your mouth, see how you do.
