Swift Nasal pillows
Swift Nasal pillows
Just wondering if anyone using Swift nasal pillows have rainout problems?
I have been using Swift since starting cpap, use a humidifier set at 2 don't see any droplets in the hose in the morning, yet I use about 2/3 of the water in the unit up, could it be there is so much exhaust built into the pillow that thats preventing moisture build up. When I did try my Profile Lite it would get condensation in the mask which was annoying, and I feel that was from not enough exhaust design in that mask. Just curious seeing if others expierence the same with their Swifts.Do like the idea of not having rainout problems.

Re: Swift Nasal pillows
I hope you're right Hurricane. I use the Swift II and love it, but it's summer here (Australia) and I understand rainout is a winter problem.

I use the Swift and that is my experience as well. The high volume of exhaust apparently keeps the condensation flushed out. It alos accounts for the noise.I have been using Swift since starting cpap, use a humidifier set at 2 don't see any droplets in the hose in the morning, yet I use about 2/3 of the water in the unit up, could it be there is so much exhaust built into the pillow that thats preventing moisture build up
I am having my DME order a Swift II for me. It looks like ResMed has moved the vent holes into the stiff plastic frame where the nasal pillows attach. Will report on any improvements when and if I get it.

Swift II
Hi Steve,I am having my DME order a Swift II for me. It looks like ResMed has moved the vent holes into the stiff plastic frame where the nasal pillows attach. Will report on any improvements when and if I get it.
I started on the original Swift and have been using the Swift II for about a month. You're right, they have moved the vent holes, as well as increasing the number of holes to lower the volume and diffuse the exhaust. The volume is definitely lower, but my wife still doesn't like the exhaust, but she is VERY sensitive to air blowing on her eyes. But she can just rotate the pillow a bit until it doesn't hit her face and it doesn't wake me up or break the seal.

[quote="Santacarver"]I am a new user with a Swift system. How can I tell if it is a Swift I or a Swift II?

I hope so. My DME provider indicated that they might be. I had her order one for me. We shall see.I have had absolutely no rainout at all. I too would love to try the Swift II to reduce the noise and move the airflow away a bit more. Is it available now in the US?
I could certainly do with a little less exhaust noise.

I just called ResMed customer service and showed them the Swift II picture on this website. The cs agent had not seen this version and claimed that the Swift I pillows are the only ones made by the company, outside of some product trials.
I'm supposed to get a followon call from the company once they look into this in more detail. Will keep you posted. I'd hate to think that my DME sold me last year's model for this year's price.

Since I have changed to the Swift, I have been using the entire amount of water in the humidifier. I have to fill it above the full line to avoid running out. I don't have any rain out problems. The mask seems to exhaust at least twice as much air compared to my old face masks.

Dang, I just bought a Swift outta pocket and it's the Swift I. Ah well, last night was my first night on it and found it GREAT.
I don't have a bed buddy, so no worries on the exhaust issue.
Gotta love that design though. Swift rocks!
So anything more advantageous about the Swift II?

Hi Telly. The Swift II is a little easier to clean, it has a different pillow sleeve assembly and broader sliding clip which makes it a little less fiddly. So anything more advantageous about the Swift II?
Don't sweat it about buying the Swift I, the basic design is the same and they BOTH rock imo.
Cheers

Humidifier water use with Swift
Hi Nitro Dan,Since I have changed to the Swift, I have been using the entire amount of water in the humidifier. I have to fill it above the full line to avoid running out. I don't have any rain out problems. The mask seems to exhaust at least twice as much air compared to my old face masks.
I've only used the Swift I & II so don't have anything to compare it with. If I use my humidifier (Humidaire 3i) on 5 or 6 I'll use the whole tank too. I have it on 3 at the moment and it uses about half. My pressure is not as high as yours (14 vs 18 ) that might affect it too.
For me, a bit of water is a small price to pay for such a cool mask.
Good to hear that rainout is not a big deal with the Swift, I'm yet to face my first cpap winter.
Cheers
Peter

i've been using the swift since november and in the beginning had a few bouts of rainout. Keep in mind that i just started on cpap in november so the whole thing, cpap and swift, was totally new to me.
I woke up a few times with "gurgling" noises in the swift...got up, drained out the moisture and went back off to sleep. I got myself a nice soft fleecy hose cover and i actually try to route the hose under my blankie. Since then i have not had any real issues with rainout. Once in a while, on the colder nights, i do feel an occasional dribble of water leaking out around my upper lip, but its not bad at all. I do better with higher humidity so i can deal with it.
I'm coming up on 2 months of usage now and so far have no desire to even try another mask, although i suppose in time i will get curious enough to try another for a backup!
