new here....need help..

Hi, I am new to this forum and have a question or two. recently, I have had my meds changed for depression,(paxil 20mg) and now I wake up and get terribly drowsy mid-morning and it's to the point of having to sleep for 20 minutes or I get so tired I cant focus.
This very concerning to me as I travel for a living. After the nap I am drowsy the whole rest of the day. This spell comes on at the same time every day. I have used the cpap therapy for 2 yrs with great results until lately. I used to take a different med but it wasn't working. was at the sleep doc and he said nopthing was wrong, and the drug could't be causing this?? anyone have a clue?

Hi -

I, too, deal with depression and know all about side effects and finding the right drug. I just Googled Paxil and found that drowsiness and fatigue can be side effects. As with all anti-drepressants, the side effect can last a week or two or be permanent.

I'm not a doctor - but in my experience - it's worth talking to your psychiatrist about this as he/she is the expert on side effects for depression. Maybe there's something else you can take. if you're like me - you'll be on several before you find the right combination and that combination will change over time as your body builds a tolerance.

Also - some anti-drepressants help the depression and then disturb your sleep at night. This happened to me and I know take Trazedone at night. This is an anti-depressant that works with (against?) the other anti-depressants to let you sleep. I know many people who take Trazadone to assist with sleep.

Again, I'm not a doc - just someone with 15 years dealing with antidepressant meds. My dream is to lower my drugs as my CPAP deals with my sleep issues....... I've only been on CPAP for 2 months....

Hope this helps.
