First Night Newbie

Post by jimbassett » Fri Dec 29, 2006 5:43 pm

Tonight I get to start out with all new equipment and no former experience using CPAP. I hope all goes well, otherwise there will be lots of questions coming from this household. I got a good introduction to setting up the equipment and how it should work. My frustration will be with the mask I'm sure. Will let you know in the morning how it went. adios

Welcome and enjoy your first night on the hose. You will have an adjustment period regarding your mask but, take it from me, the adjustment period will be overshadowed by how well you will feel after a decent night's sleep. Just a hint, don't overtighten your mask. I've been on the hose for 3 weeks now and am just starting to heal from my first night. I look like I've spent some time in the octagon on UFC

first night

I have been a hose user for about a month now and your machine and mask are pretty much the same as mine. I set my humidfier on 3 and don't have any dryness in my nose or throat, i can tell you from my experiences don't tighten the mask straps to tight or your nose will get sore (only tighten enough to keep from leaking). It will take a little time to get used to it all and your lungs may feel a little sore at first depending on your pressure etc. but it gets better with time. I am starting to feel a lot better now with more energy and less afternoon sleepiness. I started out using the ramp feature but when i got used to the pressure (after about two weeks) i elected to not use this feature and go straight pressure, i fix all the leaks of the mask right away after turning on the machine and go right to sleep, the c-flex seems to adjust quickly within a minute or two and i can breathe normally.

Good luck sleep well and stick with it.

First Night Results

Post by jimbassett » Sat Dec 30, 2006 10:17 am

I was asleep by 8:30 PM after setting up breathing with the mask for 30 min.

I woke up at 2:30 AM. No problems or sore spots from mask. Had FB (full bladder)
Washed my face and rested while playing solitaire to get sleepy again. Was back in bed by 4AM and woke up again at 7 at which time I got up and let out a WHOOO HOOO!!!
My wife thought I was having a nightmare. 9 hrs of good sleep sure makes for a better attitude. I see no obstacles ahead thanks to each of you who gave such good advice while I was lurking and learning. I need to practice keeping the air out of my mouth which pooches my cheeks out like unto a chipmunk.
Later guys and gals JimB
