Mirage swift mask sides feel like blinders

Post by cabbie » Wed Dec 27, 2006 10:03 pm

I am trying to adjust to a mirage swift mask which I've heard great things about...I purchased it about a year ago but couldn't get accustomed to it; I'm a side sleeper who likes/needs to switch sides during the night so it seemed impossible to overcome the tube always being on one side or another....however, my breeze is out of commission (too old and leaky) and I don't want to purchase a new mask until my new insurance year (next week)....so I pulled out the swift to use it and logged in here.

Last night, it seemed to do pretty well, but the two big problems were the hose always being on one side, but I saw the tip from a user (Tridens?) about threading the velcro through the top of the headgear...so will try that tonight, that looks promising.

However the other problem is feeling like the firmer sides of the headgear feel restrictive-- like they are too big for my face. Is that normal? I don't have a small face by any means, but I was joking to my hubbie that I felt like I had blinders on. Any tips for dealing with this?

try some padacheeks. They'll soften it up greatly

I use swift also. Can't help you with the 'blinder' feeling as it's not something I experience. However, I'm also a side sleeper and I just have the hose hang down instead of up. That way I can toss and turn and the hose is never under my head. I have a six foot hose - so there's never a problem of having to rearrange my hose as I toss and turn.

Good luck!

Tridens advice on repositioning the hose made all the difference for me!
As far as the "blinders," by all means, try some Padacheeks!!!
Since using them on my Swift, I made sure to put them on any mask that I wear from now on1

Hi,
Do you have the masked put together correctly? This may seem like an obvious question, but if you put the side pieces on inverted they will be off your face and block your side vision like blinders. The mask will still work but you can see the headgear. I made this mistake when first putting the swift together . You also may need to readjust the straps so the side pieces line up between the ear and eye.

Must have just been the first night, I don't know what's up, I have not felt that way since -- I didn't have it reversed but I think I had the head top strap tightened a bit too much, pulling it up a bit. But I do want to try the padacheeks -- where do you get those?
