HELLO ALL, I JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE SEVERE OSA AND STOP BREATHING MORE THAN 82 TIMES IN AN HOUR. I GOT THE MACHINE A WEEK AGO AND WAS SOOOO EXCITED ABOUT STARTING TREATMENT, WANTING TO FEEL BETTER SO BADLY. THEY GAVE ME A RESMED WITH A HUMIDIFIER AND A RESMED FULL FACE MASK. THE FIRST FEW NIGHTS I WOKE UP TO DISCOVER THAT I HAD UNKNOWINGLY RIPPED IT OFF DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT "SOMETIME AFTER 4-5AM"THEN HERE FOR THE LAST TWO NIGHTS I HAVE SLEPT WITH IT ON ALL NIGHT. ITS SET AT 11CM. OH AND HUBBY SAID HE CAN STILL HEAR ME SNORING THROUGH THE MASK. AM I SUPPOSED TO BREATH THROUGH MY NOSE OR MY MOUTH WITH CPAP??? OBVISOUSLY I CANT HELP WHICH WAY MY BODY CHOOSES FOR ME TO BREATH AT NIGHT. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT MIGHT BE GOING WRONG IN MY TREATMENT??? i DONT FEEL ANY MORE REFRESHED IN THE MORNINGS EITHER AND AM STILL HAVING HEADACHES......PLEASE HELP
KRISTINA

CPAP NOT WORKING
the snoring with the mask doesn't really mean anything, it would be nice to eliminate those but some people increasing pressure doesn't eliminate them.
It doesn't really matter if you breathe through your nose or mouth with the Full Face mask, albeit better if you can breathe through your nose.
don't know how long you have been using the therapy but it can take 4-6 weeks before you feel any benefit from the machine. Best thing to do it stick with it, the machine even if the pressure delivery is not fine tuned it can assist in keeping your nocturnal oxygen levels back to near normal levels.
If the snoring continues and/or you find yourself waking gasphing for air while wearing the mask you may want to talk to your doctor about an increase in pressure but it all depends on what your PSG indicated. If you were using a nasal mask during the PSG titration then you may want to consider a pressure increase.
Ramp: Your machine has a Ramp feature. You should make sure it is set up correctly and understand how it functions, then use it, it will make falling asleep much easier. I would suggest setting the Ramp pressure and time to the following if you are new at this therapy:
Ramp start pressure=6.0cm (press the Ramp button, pressure drops from 11cm to 6cm for 30-mins, you can hit the button as many times as you wish to reset the pressure and timer).
Ramp timer=30-minutes (gives you 30-min to fall asleep before 11cm pressure kicks in).
CPAP pressure=11cm.
Alternately if your machine is the Autoset, you can set up Settling and use it the same way as Ramp while in cpap mode. Both these features greatly improve comfort when first starting out with this therapy.

Please turn off your caps lock. Caps is the same as yelling here, it also makes the post more difficult to read.
Everyone is different. Some see results right away, some take months, most take 4-6 weeks. I think almost everyone has ripped the mask off in the beginning. You do get used to this new way of sleeping.
Are you sure you're not having leaks? Leaks can ruin treatment.

When I used a full face mask, I found I was snoring a little. Once I went to a nasal mask/pillows then it went away for whatever reason. You might want to keep a journal to detail any changes to see if you are indeed feeling better. It could be a slow progression. Some people get luck and instantly feel refreshed, while for others it takes time, patience, and tweaking of equipment. I gave myself a full month before discussing my progress with my doctor. IF you find yourself still tired, please talk to him/her. I ended up getting my pressure increase while on CPAP. When that didn't help, I switched to an APAP. After tweaking pressures, I finally found what worked best and am feeling great. It was a long process, but well worth it.
I'd talk to your doctor. My doctor made sure I understood how my machine worked, helped me get my mask to fit correctly, and helped me to understand what to expect when sleeping with it. I was also lucky enough to be able to get used to the thing after just a single night. Talk to your doc, they are there to help!
