Still tired

Post by gregnga » Sun Dec 24, 2006 8:08 am

I consistently wake up in the morning still tired even after using the cpap machine all night. I feel like I haven't got the last little bit of sleep that I need. I end up taking a nap for about 10 minutes at noon time and then I am fine the rest of the day.

Any suggestions?

Give us more information. How long have you been on cpap? Are you taking it (mask)off in the middle of the night? What Cpap equipment do you have- (mask, machine, pressure settings) Do you wake up with dry mouth in the morning ? I know these are a lot of questions, but I know these questions are important to help you. Hang in there you have come to right place

I know from others(board members) more questions will be added to my list above. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

Your therapy apparently isn't working.....
Click on the yellow lightbulb (above) and read "Our Collective Wisdom".
Please fill out your profile and give us more information so we may have some ideas as to what to suggest.

I have a Rem Rest 902 CPAP machine (I didn't see it as a selection on the profile page), Resperonics Comfort Nasal mask w/headgear, Fisher-Paykel 150 humidifier. The pressure setting is 8.0

No, I do not usually take the mask off during the night. Occcasionally, I'll take it off to use the bathroom but not normally. Sometimes I wake up a few times because I have to roll over from back to side. I usually do not have a dry mouth unless I am not using the humidifier

The best suggestion I can offer is to hang in there! For many of us with OSA came to CPAP with months to years of never sleeping well and built up some sleep deprivation. It takes time for you body to recover from all that loss of sleep, but eventually you will wake up feeling better. It just takes time.

Also, as mentioned make sure you're compliant with your therapy and that there are not mask leaks, etc. If all that is in order, then in time you will beging to feel better.

Jeff

My personal experience is that cpap therapy results are quite immediate--at least a noticeable difference even if all I got is a few hours sleep (which was quite common for me at the beginning of cpap therapy). Now I sleep all night and there's no going back.

I agree that something is probably not working correctly--like mouth breathing--but I couldn't begin to tell you what that might be. I'd suggest that you ask your doctor.

Sounds like me before I knew I was mouth breathing during the night. Mouth taping cured it. Sounds bizarre, but you might want to tape your mouth shut tonite and see what happens.
