What do people do with old CPAP gear?
What do people do with old CPAP gear?
I no longer need any of my gear, what should I do with it?
S9 Autoset, Humidifier, heated tube and mask (just a week of use on those), case. Its 8 years old but works fine.
Is that old enough to throw out? (recycle etc)
If some place is cleaning these up for those that cant afford them I would prefer something like that.
Thanks.
Note: New mask is an airfit F20, small head gear.

Your gear may not fit the criteria for this organization, but I"ll post the link for information anyway:Cuda wrote:If some place is cleaning these up for those that cant afford them I would prefer something like that.

It can't hurt to make the inquiry.

From their web site......We accept the following machines from non-smoking households with up to 6,000 hours use (approximately 3 years use):Soothest Sleep wrote:Your gear may not fit the criteria for this organization, but I"ll post the link for information anyway:Cuda wrote:If some place is cleaning these up for those that cant afford them I would prefer something like that.

Do you have other equipment you're using?
Most of us keep everything for backups and spares (or repurposing/reusing it for other things).
The only things I've "worn out" in nearly 13 years is one or two sets of headgear and one mask seal.

This is just old/extra stuff--right?
After 8 years, it would be such a waste to throw in the towel.
Happy new year.

It's a bit cryptic, but I see what Cuda is up to - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=156938&p=1200357#p1200357
Re: What do people do with old CPAP gear?
Interesting thread. Cuda, did you actually take the Mayo Clinic sleep test or are you relying on the in home results? Can you really drop an AHI of 60+ by losing weight and changing your sleep position? Seems too good to be true.ChicagoGranny wrote:It's a bit cryptic, but I see what Cuda is up to - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=156938&p=1200357#p1200357

Re: What do people do with old CPAP gear?
Yes, and, also from their website: "For approval, please email manager@sleepapnea.org with a list of your equipment. Machine type (CPAP, AutoCPAP, or BiLevel) model, number of hours used and age of machine, and accessories: factory sealed mask, tubing, filter, carry case, humidifier, patient manuals." [emphasis added] So you see, even if the machine itself is not acceptable there, other parts of the collection may be. It can't hurt to make the enquiry, and the ASAA can make a specific decision about what is acceptable to them.LSAT wrote:From their web site......We accept the following machines from non-smoking households with up to 6,000 hours use (approximately 3 years use):Soothest Sleep wrote:Your gear may not fit the criteria for this organization, but I"ll post the link for information anyway:Cuda wrote:If some place is cleaning these up for those that cant afford them I would prefer something like that.

Re: What do people do with old CPAP gear?
Thanks! I am pretty sure I have well over 6000 hours on my equipment. I might keep it to dial in a better sleep position. I am searching for something to track body position, I have a snorecoach but it's buggy and today again failed to record data.
I will have to start a new fhread, hoping there are other products for tracking sleep position. Maybe a sleeve on my shirt I could code something in Python for my phone. It has all the sensors I need.
I'm not up to anything. I just don't need my gear anymore. I did not mentioned being "cured" as I did not want a debate, I just wanted to know where people send their gear if not needed. It was expensive for me as insurance did not pay anything and I can sympathize with others in the same position.
Thanks for the info.

Usually the next of kin finds it in the closet, and probably puts in a yard sale or the trash! Jim

Re: What do people do with old CPAP gear?
True. I was told to stop using it. Looks to be more of a body position thing that I would have never found without CPAP.
Another in lab study tomorrow.
