getting off ambien and still sleeping well

Post by cillakat » Tue Dec 12, 2006 5:15 pm

Dh takes ambien every night to sleep and has for about a year. He loooooves it. before that, he did trazadone for about 1-2 years and loved that. He just love ambien more:) It works better, he falls asleep faster, stays asleep better and still doesn't feel rested when he wakes;/

Anway, for the last few nights he's taken 1 Tranquilnite (new chapter...iherb.com) and 2,000 mg tryptophan powder. The tranquilnite he takes an hour before planned sleep time. The tryptophan about 30 min before *on an empty stomach* with water and about an ounce of juice.

He's been sleeping great. Falling asleep no problem and mostly staying asleep. He reports one wake-up each night but no difficulty going back to sleep.

Hopefully it will continue to go this well for him - being off ambien can only be good for him (as long as he's sleeping) and it's certainly a less expensive regimen. I'm looking so forward to the follow up to review the results of the PSG.

last night I intentionally slept with only a 325mg Ecotrin aspirin (for stroke prevention) after being on melatonin for some 15+years, no problem falling and staying asleep, may even try doing without again tonight.

I think I'd still take melatonin over Ambien even if it caused a 3rd arm to grow out of my forehead

isn't it weird how medications affect people differently? I've been on Ambien for almost 2 years now... taking it almost every night for those past 2 years... except for this last month... (started cpap 6 months ago). 1 month ago came down with horrible bronchitis and was taking some nyquil at night to stop the coughing and didn't need the ambien. Well i'm certainly not on nyquil anymore and haven't needed the ambien either. Zero insomnia effects. Its almost like my Mask has become my new ambien... I gear up, listen to my machine and it soothes me off to sleep... until the alarm clock brings me back to life.
