Is there a simple way to use this Board?
Is there a simple way to use this Board?
Discovered this site and have been reading newbie stuff which has been helpful in calming my fears (I've had my equipment 6 days and not touched it to set up and use). Created an account. Now that I wish to write a reply to people asking about the home sleep study experience, I am clueless how to do so. Not quite as old as Methuselah, I was a secretary and have been using computers for at least 25 years, but mostly for MSWord docs, email, and search/cut/copy, simple tables, etc., but nothing like business or data processing computing, and I'm totally lost here. Are there any instructions on how to use the site? A glossary of terms for the abbreviations? Apologies for not being more tech savvy, though surely I'm not alone.

Welcome to the Forum! No, you surely aren't alone! Lots of non-tech folks here. No specific rules, except to be polite. Just hit the reply button and post away. There are many veterans on this site who will be happy to help in any way they can to guide you on this journey.

Reading is good, many here don't seem able to. To post a reply, there is a button to click, above your post on the left, says reply, that opens a screen to enter the reply on. Jim
At the main page, above on the left the posts, is a button to post new topics posts from you.

Welcome S. Barrett ~~~
You are already using it. And just like your health ... you will get better at it every day and with each post.
Why haven't you touched your equipment?
What type of equipment do you have?
Do you have the results from your sleep study?
If you've been reading here for a few days I hope you've been reading from Pugsy's Pointers (pinned above).
That's a great place to start reading and formulating questions and filling in blanks.
Good Luck and I look forward to you sharing your experiences and success.

Also there are no different sections here to make finding old posts easy. Just do a search at top and keep going through the tons of pages or start your own new topic like you did here.

To Lucyhere, Goofproof, Grace~~~, and USMCVet...Thank you so much for your replies.
I just found this group this morning. Read quite a bit and decided this was the place for me. My specifics: Home sleep study 8/24; hospital titration sleep-over 10/24.
Equipment received 11/28.
Respironics DreamStation with Heated Humidifier
ResMed Mirage FX mask (+ hose and headgear)
Poor memory; not a mechanic. When Samantha from MedBridge was leaving, I laughingly said "wish me luck tonight." That was six days ago! I opened one of the manuals then sat on the side of the bed and cried. It is with gratitude I found this website. Have read some in my manuals. Went on the Respironics website hoping they'd have a Q and A section. Nope. Did watch a Respironics Youtube, 1 of 3, which was reasonably helpful. A bit hard to decipher in places as the demonstrator spoke with a heavy accent. I am very concrete where instructions are concerned. "Warm water and some mild soap" doesn't do it for me. How much water? What kind and how much mild soap. Of course, I didn't write down anything the provider told me on delivery day so I don't remember what Iim supposed to use vinegar for. Thought about a So-Clean machine which is heavily advertised. Read some reviews. Some people love it. Others think it's a waste of money. I've been working on lists of what to do/when in terms of cleaning. Again the concrete thing. Detailed info is good.
Thank you four again. :-}

Don't overthink it. It's an appliance, like a can opener or a blender. Your tech already set it up to do its thing.S.Barrett wrote:I opened one of the manuals then sat on the side of the bed and cried.
1. Plug it in.
2. Add distilled water.
3. Put the mask on.
4. Push Start.
5. Breathe.
6. Sleep.

You can click on the link just below this sentence for one of my favorite brochures on using PAP:S.Barrett wrote: Detailed info is good.

I love rituals.
...and ritual cleaning!
I'm pretty sure you're not going to hurt anything by over cleaning, but if you do you can replace it and not do THAT again.
I'd think of it like a pacifier or something you are going to have *right up on your face* and clean it like that.
Me? I am a germaphobe. I like it minty. (or not at all ) So, I use a drop or two of Dr. Bronners Peppermint.
Personally I am not against using smudge sticks to purify it but I would wash it before and after any magic purification?
It's intuitive. Like the hygiene of any bed partner ... it's personal preference up to the point that you have to use common sense to not get sick.

I like this suggestion and am going to try it out. Mint is one of my favorite olfactory pleasures. Who would have thought that CPAP could be so enjoyable?Grace~~~ wrote: So, I use a drop or two of Dr. Bronners Peppermint.

We used to give out a basket of new masks when you joined, but the person before you got the last basket. You only get the air out of your XPAP., breath it in.
