Card Reader Quit Working

Post by wawasteele » Tue Dec 12, 2006 12:25 pm

I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions. It is now working!

I had only one other item in another usb port, but I removed it, and the card reader still wouldn't work. I didn't know about the power problem with usb's on laptops. I will keep that in mind for any further problems.

I also will keep in mind to use the same usb. That might have been what caused the problem, but I am not sure.

What worked was using the XP restore to restore to Sat. I can't believe I never thought of it!

Thank you all, very, very much.

If you have XP, why not try the "go back" feature?

I had that problem until someone here told me to ALWAYS plug the USB back into the SAME port.

I reinstalled the software with it plugged into one spot and now I plug it into the same port and it works...except I have trouble getting the card to stay in at times. I can either hold it in manually or wiggle it a little bit until it find the exact connection it needs, THEN it will old the card in place. It did not do this the first couple of months I had it.

Good luck (and yes, I have their card reader too)
Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

Any suggestions?
I believe I know how to fix your problem. I need to give some background first. Laptops are notorious for the usb ports to become under powered by the usb power bus. Particularly if you have several USB devises connected, such as a Camera, mouse, printer, reader, flash memory, etc. Do you have a printer connnected when you try to use the card reader? A work around, but not a fix is to switch off the printer and then unplug the card reader and plug back in. It should work. The printer USB may be taking to much bus power. Below is a fix.
I recommend you get an external USB hub that is powered externally. They cost about $30 at Office Deport. Belkin makes a good one. Look for Belkin USB 2.0 4-port hub. Make sure its externally powered. Follow the HUB directions. Once installed connect your printer to the hub. Then connect the other USB devises as usual.

Keep us posted......

Hi again.

Gee, I thought I was replying to thank everyone, and I guess I did. But somehow, in doing that, I also erased my first message!

Hard to believe I used to give private computer support to people! LOL
