Craigslist

Post by needmoresleep2017 » Wed Nov 22, 2017 6:03 pm

Just wondering if anyone has purchased off craigslist? Found a brand new Airsense 10 for cheap. Any risks? thoughts?

I prefer local face to face exchanges of cpap stuff off craigslist if at all possible. Often the sellers don't really have a clue what they are selling or they will mislead people on purpose (not everyone is honest).
Not everyone saying they will ship...will ship. They will take your money and you never hear from them again. I had it happen to me.
I did finally get the money back through PayPal but it took time and lots of aggravation.
That was the last time I bought a machine off Edit...brain fart...Craigslist.
Now we do have some forum members who have machines they sell and they also offer on craigslist...now if they had a machine I would trust them to ship.

There are several sellers that post on almost every major city CL and indicate that they ship. Some indicate that they are licensed distributors and therefore can provide a warranty others cannot. If you buy cheap enough the warranty doesn't mean much. ............Check your PMs

I agree. I am sure there are tons of scammers on CL. My thoughts are that if it is new and I am paying with PayPal that it should be fairly safe. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks for your input!

Do you mean Craigslist? Mistype?

Find out hours. Get a picture of it if possible. There are a lot of people who don't know how to do this so be prepared to give them a step-by-step to access that info. If you don't smoke, be sure to ask if the user was a smoker. If the user was a smoker, then be prepared to replace the stuffing inside that keeps the motor quiet.

Buying from Craigslist, generally you want to see the machine. Have them plug it in; view the hours. If you are having it shipped, make sure your transaction goes through Paypal as a PURCHASE for your protection. I bought a machine outside of my area from both OfferUp.com and Craigslist and it went smooth using Paypal. In both cases, the machines had zero hours and were offered for a good price.

I also ask why someone is getting rid of it. If someone had bariatric surgery, chances are the machine was either never used or used a bare minimum of hours until after their surgery and then not at all. Insurance paid for 100% of it and they just want it out with a little cash.

Yes, I have used Craigslist. But, you have be very careful.
Meet in public- the library is great- it's quiet and has electrical outlets for you to use to test machine.
Check RUN HOURS.
I set up and test the cpap at the library. I bring my own mask and long hose, and give it a good test run. Smell for smoke, and check ALL the knobs and settings to make sure it works.
Inspect it very good. take your time.
Talk to the seller on the phone a few times, and ask them why they are selling it. If they don't want to meet you at the library, ask why. I offered the seller $10 gas money to drive to my town. It was worth it to me for peace of mine.

I would not buy off craigslist unless I can see it in person.

Yes - I bought my current machine last spring. Shipped directly from the manufacturer. No RX needed. Perfect.

A good place to do this is in section RC735.I5.

I find it highly unlikely that any cpap manufacturer sells their prescription only machines directly to the consumer without rx, in flagrant violation of law.

I bought it from a dealer I found on craigslist. It shipped directly from the manufacturer, as did the mask.

Many local police departments are providing a safe place for face to face CL sales and custody swaps.
