Has anyone experienced this?

Post by TiredTexan » Sat Oct 21, 2017 10:42 pm

I have been using a ResMed Airsense 10 APAP machine for a few months now. First, the good things. I no longer keep my wife awake with snoring. I am getting longer amounts of restful sleep.

My Respironics Amara mask is a lot better than the nasal and full face masks I first tried but I am still experiencing skin irritation. I am going to get some of that aloe lotion as soon as possible. It also drives me crazy when I need to scratch my nose with this thing on, which the mask itself causes. I hate the strap "snaps", too. I really liked the magnets better.

I am on my 2nd ResMed Airsense 10. I took the 1st one back because in the middle of the night it would start blowing enough air to inflate radial tires. I am not talking about air leak. I am talking blow dryer strength. It would actually wake up my Wife. I called ResMed and they said either my hose is blocked or their is a defective sensor. I have had my 2nd machine for about 2 weeks. Everything was fine with it until last night. About 1:3am, the air flow got strong enough to wake me up. It was not as bad as my 1st machine but it was a-blowin. I paused the machine several times, I turned it off and I unplugged it. Nothing worked. So, I took off my mask and laid there for about 15 minutes. I cranked it back up and everything was fine. I went back to sleep.

I know what a seal leak is. This isn't that.

Has anyone had this happen?

Trim your nose hair. It's the air blowing around in there that tricks your brain into thinking a bug is trying to crawl in, and so it says "SCRATCH", It never feels like it's itching IN your nose, but somewhere on or around...

No... but download your info into sleepyhead and see what's going on. It will tell you how high the pressure is going and possibly what is triggering it. Do you have/use sleepyhead? Look up "Pugsy", she has the download info.

For the itching, you may want to try a mask liner. You ca purchase one from padacheek, buy REMZZZS, or make your own. I made my own from an old, well-used tee shirt. I have also made mask liners from painters rags I purchased from either Lowes or Home Depot. I found the pattern for the mask liner at the following site: http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotton-mask-liner.pdf
The liner works for either small or medium sized masks. It can be enlarged for large masks. The hole in the center an be enlarged, but be careful to leave enough cloth to stay under the edge of the mask.

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

Sometimes itching has no real physical reason,
--just a spontaneous reaction to knowing that spot cannot be scratched.
Anyone who has had a limb in a cast has probably had it.
Some folks can actually "think" the itch away--like meditation.
If you can learn to do it, it can also work on a number of other things.
