Best cpap machine

Post by Vagabonbo » Thu Oct 12, 2017 11:24 am

I am looking for input on a cpap machine. I have had 4 sleep studies but do not qualify for sleep apnea. I snore. I have been divorced because of this and now if I can’t fix my snoring it will soon be a second divorce. I have purchased basically ever snore device as well has had the operations to try to solve it. I am going to purchase a machine. Which machine is not a brick? What machine do you recommend. Please help

Divorced over snoring? That seems a bit extreme...

I can see separate rooms or something.

Respironics and ResMed are both very good and secondwindcpap.com has a good selection of gently used machines that can save you quite a bit of money.

I recommend my machine. It comes in a "for her" model or a generic model. Try Amazon or SecondWind to purchase.

Have you seen an ENT doctor? Have you done everything possible to not sleep on your back (makes all the difference)?

I recommend this purchase, with humidifier $469 - http://www.secondwindcpap.com/ResMed-S9-AutoSet.html

I have used this model for over five years. I like it so much, I bought a backup machine from secondwindcpap.

I am brand new to the CPAP world, I do not even own one yet, my appointment with the RT to "show me" the units is next week. I did talk with the sleep tech and they told me the CM of air I need for best sleep is 12.

I am curious' just how are you going to determine what settings to use on the CPAP that you buy? typically they make you go back to the sleep study and hook you up to the wires and study your sleep to determine the the best flow rate, etc. In my case i had so many episodes in the first hour of the test he woke me up and put a mask on me the same night.

I did a study 17 years ago and the tech told I didn't have enough episodes to qualify for a CPAP, then she said I am one of the loudest snorers she has ever heard. I didn't know how to take that, but it is a point of bragging when with the boys talking trash. More seriously I just learned to sleep on my sides, never on my back, still snored but not as bad. That's what I have done for the last 17 years, it really sucks when you hurt a shoulder and can't stretch an arm out to the side.

My point is I think there is more to these machines than just throwing on a mask.

You buy an APAP. Set it on 7 - 20 cm. Look at your first night's results in Sleepyhead. Depending on your events (including snores) and pressure line, you make adjustments if needed.

Repeat process additional nights until you find the lowest minimum pressure that eliminates most events and is comfortable.

Doing this in your own bed at home over several nights yields a more accurate titration than doing it in the strange environment of a sleep lab for a few hours. In fact, it is not unusual for the sleep lab's titration to vary considerably from optimal.

Axe the cpap machine and go to the drug store and get those nasal strips to put on your nose at night.

You don't read very well do you.. He/She stated that they have tried every snoring item out there, I'm sure breath rite strips would have been one of the first to try.
Great advice to give to a new person on a cpap therapy site... you seem to be a might cranky today

I will second the recommendation for the ResMed AutoSet...S9 or the newer AirSense 10 AutoSet.
Since you don't know what pressures you might end up needing...and the ResMed exhale relief is a little better IMHO at the higher pressures I usually suggest ResMed if at all possible.

Second choice would be the Respironics APAP....either the slightly older PR System One model 560 or the latest DreamStation Auto CPAP model DSX500xxx. It offers exhale relief (and you may not even need or want exhale relief) but if you do it's still decent enough exhale relief.

Either brand is full data and there is easy to obtain and use software available.

We can help with figuring out optimal pressure settings...not a big deal. Easy to do with just a little bit of work and education.
Might take a week...maybe. Might get lucky with the 7 min 20 max that someone mentioned earlier and not need any tweaking.

Snoring has less impact if you have the gift of humor.
On a family road trip, I woke in the motel room, surrounded by my husband, his mother,
his brother, and my sister in law--all laughing their butts off.
Apparently, my snores were monumental, thus providing massive amusement.

Snoring has it's good side, say you are driving with your family and fall asleep driving, if you snore loudly they may wake you up before you kill anyone. A good thing! Jim
