messing with another members post
What are the rules here about changing some one else's post or in this case underlining what they do not believe in red? TY

As I have said many times xzzx I do not make false statements. I suggest you apologize for this since once again you are off base.

Re: messing with another members post
Nobody messed with your post. Some *did* quote it and made part of it red for emphasis. Nothing wrong with that, and in fact it's considered kind of polite so you know what they are referring to.
Re: messing with another members post
Do you really think that's OK! However, answering the post is allowed, highlighting is allowed, just don't make a *SS out of yourself. JimAMESS wrote:What are the rules here about changing some one else's post or in this case underlining what they do not believe in red? TY
If you don't understand what's right or wrong in social conduct, maybe it would be better not to post in the thread.

The forum has the quote function for this purpose exactly.
There will be no bullshit that goes unchallenged.

Re: messing with another members post
When a post (or part of one) is quoted, people do have the ability to change anything in that quoted material. I believe it would be extremely wrong to change the wording of it, but nothing wrong with highlighting or underlining. Some people note that the bold or underline is something they added that was not in the original post (something I would do as well). But that's certainly not required. And there are no rules that I know of here related to that, and I don't believe any are needed.

Re: messing with another members post
If the quote feature were to be taken literally, not even one space would be changed. However, in this use its general purpose is to keep the conversation cohesive and avoid misunderstanding who and what the reply is directed toward. Answering in a colored font indicates the words are not a part of the original quote and are in reply to the text immediately above. Stylistic liberty is common in replies. It becomes a problem when it is unclear who to attribute text to, like when there are multiple replies being quoted and missing one of the quote brackets changes who it appears is talking. In a perfect world a quote would literally be a quote, but we already know this is not a perfect world. I tend to quote only the section I'm replying to and use three dots to indicate material missing from original text. I guess even then someone could feel that it makes the excerpt out of context. When someone has quoted a long body of text all at once but are replying to several items within that text, I appreciate clearly presented replies being close to the material at issue. But I can see how one could feel territorial about any changes to their text.

I will wait to comment on this until someone who claims to be in charge can answer it. Yes this forum needs monitering in a bad way. You are supposed to help and not be critical. Dont make negative comments if you do know the situation. To me it is improper to mess with some elses post. I did not ask to have it highlighted.

I've been here for over ten years and it's always been this way. The forum owners have made it very clear they want a non-moderated forum. Maybe I'm wrong, but you'll probably be waiting a very LOOONG time for the owners to comment here.amess wrote:I will wait to comment on this until someone who claims to be in charge can answer it.
