Resmed malfunction
Resmed malfunction
My resmed Airsense S10 Autoset with heated humidifier made a sharp noise and stopped functioning entirely. It was bought in Nov 2015. I contacted the shop. I am wondering if this life span is normal or unusual?

Unusual - 5 yrs is the min. most insce. co's usually go by, tho' many machines last longer. But have you tried just unplugging and re-plugging? Looked at settings that you might have inadvertently changed (like auto on or off)?
Re: Resmed malfunction
Most have a 2 year warranty. The "shop" where you bought it should cover it.Visitor wrote:My resmed Airsense S10 Autoset with heated humidifier made a sharp noise and stopped functioning entirely. Re: Resmed malfunction
It's unusual...not common.
But crap does happen.
I have seen one machine brand new that wasn't working properly from the onset need to go back.
I have seen reports of machines failing at 3 months or 1 year or any number of months of use. It isn't common though if you consider the number of machines out there.
Most will go years and years and years. I have a friend who still has his original machine from when he was first diagnosed over 25 years ago. It still works. Yes, he has newer machines that are smaller and quieter but he still uses the original old dinosaur when at home (he travels a LOT). It's too big and bulky to want to lug around while traveling and it's a bit loud compared to the new machines. But it still works like it always did.

Re: Resmed malfunction
My first machine was replaced at the one month point. It was operating properly, but the cell phone module did not work, and the DME could not monitor my usage. My second machine failed at six months. We were on vacation, and when I set it up the first night, it would not turn on. As soon as I got home, I called my DME and they replaced it again. I've had no problems since then.

Re: Resmed malfunction
I have been offered a refurbished unit as replacement. I was told this is usual. I never encountered this, but assume this is standard in this case?

Re: Resmed malfunction
I don't know how "usual" it is. It might be "usual" for your DME though.
FWIW the machine that I returned due to warranty issues was replaced by cpap.com with a brand new zero hour machine.
They don't do refurbished machines. They gave me a replacement from their new inventory stock and sent the machine back to Respironics and then Respironics gave them another new machine. Now what Respironics ultimately did with it I have no idea.
Does the refurbished machine come with a new 2 year warranty?? That would be my main concern.

I used one of the apneaboards listed suppliers. They are offering a 90 days guarantee on a refurbished replacement, rather than a 2 year one.LSAT wrote:Most have a 2 year warranty. Re: Resmed malfunction
ResMed will swap out the CPAP under warranty (2yrs). If ResMed machines are factory refurbished they have been coming with zero hours on them. They look and seem new. The DME also has the option of swapping out the unit with another they all ready have. The DME must maintain the original warranty. If you can go w/o a CPAP for a while ask for a factory "platinum" replacement.

Re: Resmed malfunction
Some additional information.
Refurbished in this instance isn't a factory refurbished machine...it's a "cleaned up, tested for function, used low hour machine". The place that it was purchased from doesn't do any machine repairing. Think of them like if I sold you a machine....I tested it for function and it seems right and pressures per the manometer show it to be correct and I cleaned it up and made sure it didn't stink.
Place where it was originally purchased from isn't a normal DME or "normal" online supplier like cpap.com.
They don't get their machines from ResMed directly like DMEs or cpap.com does. They don't have ResMed direct backing.
They get their machines from people selling either their used machine or maybe DMEs closing up shop and selling off inventory or whatever.
At any rate...I just found out that the OP here was nice to the people about the "refurbished" machine and how they did business and told them he would take it...and they turned around and said customer happiness is very important to them and they have changed their mind and he is getting a new zero hour machine with 2 year warranty.
It pays to be nice sometimes. This place didn't have to do that. ResMed won't likely send them a replacement for the defective machine. I don't know what recourse they would have or what will happen to it. They don't repair machines like acbio does and it probably would cost more to send it out for real fixing than it would end up being worth.

Re: Resmed malfunction
How do you check operational hours?did you check the meter for operational hours not your usage hours
Picked up new ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto yesterday and used it for the first time last night. I know that I've read how to find operational hours when researching machines, but cannot for the life of me recall where I saw it or how to find it.
Re: Resmed malfunction
Here's a link that explains how to get to the area on the menu where the run hours are shown.luvsbluberries (awaiting activation) wrote:Picked up new ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto yesterday and used it for the first time last night. It's for a different model but the how to get there is the same on all these machines and the run hours are all in the same place.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf
Run hours are found in the "Settings" menu...then click on "about".
see page 15 of the manual I linked to above.
When you have time you might go here and request a copy of the manual for your specific machine.
