sleep apnea and appetite decrease?
Just wondering if anyone here has had an appetite decrease with untreated apnea? I know weight gain is usually more common, but was wondering if this was possible, or if maybe its a side effect from the stress and anxiety that is often accompanied by sleep apnea.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Maybe it's a side effect of good treatment - more 02 in your system, higher metabolic rate, more exercise.... you'll have to decide if that fits at all.

Re: sleep apnea and appetite decrease?
For me, Ive noticed a decrease in appetite with my untreated apnea. It'll likely be a week or 2 at least before I can start treatment (my study is thursday). Im thinking/hoping its just stress or the apnea.Julie wrote:Maybe it's a side effect of good treatment - more 02 in your system, higher metabolic rate, more exercise.... you'll have to decide if that fits at all.

Huh? Maybe it is the stress of waiting for your sleep study.
Wasn't it supposed to be on the 3rd?
Now you say tomorrow--the 9th.
Stress is quite possible.

Sure, correct treatment for Sleep Apnea (XPAP), feel better, stay awake, more time to eat. You gain weight because your body is healther, you are not dying 50 times a night. Other than that it's just one of the thousand things to blame Sleep Apnea on, instead of getting down to the job of real treatment! Yeah, the doctor told me the 3rd but when I called on the 2nd to make sure I had the right directions, she told me she made a mistake and that it was really on the 10th. I was as confused as you. Idk. I usually dont have a lot of time to eat but my weight kinda went down a few pounds over the past month or so, around the time the apnea started.chunkyfrog wrote:Huh? Coincidentally, maybe, I did have a decent nap today and felt like I should eat, so Im gonna.

Re: sleep apnea and appetite decrease?
I've had quite a few tests done to figure out why my body has been out of whack. Bloodwork out the yin yang, scans of my lungs, heart, gut, and neck that all read normal more or less. The docs cant find anything on my tests yet. I'm trying to assume that its stress just because they have yet to find anything else wrong. The only thing bothering me that we can actually seem to somewhat get a grasp on is my sleep problem for now. Trust me when I say Ive been trying to figure out "what's wrong" for a while now.Goofproof wrote:Sure, correct treatment for Sleep Apnea (XPAP), feel better, stay awake, more time to eat. Definitely not trying to "blame" it on my apnea per se, but wanted to at least see if the apnea, or its related impact on the brain and body, could be to blame. like you said, waking up/feeling like im dying 50 times per night could definitely have a profound impact on the body.

So the apnea "started" all of a sudden?-----That is most unusual! How???sleepygary314 wrote: . . . Idk. I usually dont have a lot of time to eat but my weight kinda went down a few pounds over the past month or so, around the time the apnea started . . .
Most of the time it is a condition that gradually gets worse over time, but by the time it is finally diagnosed,
we will have had it for YEARS.

Re: sleep apnea and appetite decrease?
I've had untreated sleep apnea for who knows how many years, and yes, my appetite has also changed over the years. I don't enjoy food as much as I used to and often just feel too tired to care about eating. So, yeah, I think it's possible to have a reduced appetite with sleep apnea.

Re: sleep apnea and appetite decrease?
That could very well be the case for me, Frog. I have a history of snoring and waking up a lot at night, but thought it was normal. The severity has definitely increased over the past month, and the "jolts" I mentioned in my first post are brand new. Its very possible I had it and never knew what it was. Pardon the confusing lagnuage. When I say "started" I mean "started actually impacting me on a level I could recognize"chunkyfrog wrote:So the apnea "started" all of a sudden?-----That is most unusual! That's semi-reassuring, but also a pain because I like to weight lift and am accustomed to being a certain weight. If you dont mind me asking, why are you still untreated? i cant imagine going that long without good sleep?Rainmom17 wrote:I've had untreated sleep apnea for who knows how many years, and yes, my appetite has also changed over the years. Re: sleep apnea and appetite decrease?
I just started treatment 2 weeks ago. We'll see what effect it has on my appetite!

Re: sleep apnea and appetite decrease?
I have it! Granted, I don't suffer from sleep apnea per se, but UARS and Reflux. If I have a bad night, I won't be able to eat anything until the evening.
