Hybrid users, does this make sense

Post by snoregirl » Thu Nov 30, 2006 9:02 pm

I just got my Hybrid today. Have to hand it to Apria, once I called up and found that my order was sitting waiting for my credit card aproval (no one bothered to call me to get it), they got it here in 2 days.

Ok, so I just spent an hour trying to fit it.

I am a med pillow swift user and when I use an ultra mirage ff mask I am between a small and med. Neither is quite right.

So after trying a bunch of stuff. Medium Hybrid cusion and various nose pieces, I settled on small nose pillows and med cushion.

Does this make sense to anywone else who is having success with the Hybrid?

The small cushion was the last thing I would have thought.

The others were leaking out my nares. I could push my finger on the cushion and the leak would stop, but I couldn't get it so it would seal on its own.

Anyone else want to tell me what they chose and if possible their swift pillow size?

I definately notice that when I use this mask I will be putting on the chapstick for the wind storm over my upper lip.

I have never used the swift, but I chose the small pillows and medium cushion for my hybrid also. 4 Months ago. I tried the other pillows and cushions and this is the combo that worked best for me. I do use the med pillows on the CL2.
After a while you won't even notice the 'wind storm'.

Snoregirl-
Welcome to the Hybrid!
First I used a Breeze with large pillows.
Then I used a Swift with medium pillows.
Currently, I am using a Hybrid with medium pillows and the large cushion.
I tried all the combinations with the hybrid and that is what I ended up with.
The small pillows pushed inside my nares and thus were too small. I thought the medium cushion would be right for me but it has too much curvature. So I ended up with the large cushion (which is flatter) even though its pretty huge. Guess I just have a big mouth (!).
Anyway, good luck with the hybrid.
I love it and it really works for me much better than anything else has.
And I've come to enjoy the windstorm over the upper lip--reminds me of being outside. I miss that windstorm and the high CO2 flush on those occasions when I switch back to another mask.

Good luck with the hybrid. If you have any other questions come back to the board and ask them. Also be sure to search past links and RestedGals list of hybrid links for more hybrid tips.

I use the the medium pillow, which really seemed odd to me (large face), but the curve of the mask seems to be what is the important factor, not the size. I use the large pillows, and used them with the swift also. I had the same problem with the nares, and found that if I run a piece of tape over the bridge of my nose, just at the edge of my nares, it seems to "squish" the nares just slightly and I get a great seal. I am sleeping much better since I discovered that little trick. Good luck!

The small cushion was the last thing I would have thought.
As Sleepless mentioned, its all in the curve of the mouth-piece. If you can find a mouth-piece that fits your face and covers your mouth, you are half-way home.

I use the medium mouth-piece, even though its a bit too small. I had to apply several "fixes" to be able to use the large, because the curve is too flat for my face. I think the Hybrid favors small mouths and chipmunk cheeks.

But as Mary B hinted at, the easy breathing, REM sleep, and the great feeling in the morning are worth the trouble. I just got back to using mine, after 6 weeks on another mask. It is more difficult to use than my other mask (CL2 + tape), but its worth the extra effort.
+ Aussie heated hose.

believe it or not, I use the small cushion, one medium nose thing, and one large nose thing! Strange combination, but for some reason, it works! No leaks!

Hi Snoregirl,

For the swift the best size was the meduim. they still came out or leaked or whatever was happening.

For the hybrid, I use the large pillows. I also use the nasal Aire II, I do not know if this made my nares larger.

For the cushion I use the meduim. It is the one that does not leak when I lay on my side or move my mouth a bit. The small also fits but I get a red mark under my nose with it.

I use lanolin on the the pillows and on the outside of my nose, it helps keep the seal.

I cut off the thing that connect the two pillows together. This was a major improvement. Also I was able to line up the pillows to what my nose is like. It helps with sealing better.

Snoregirl you asked how do we know. I slept with the different combinations to see which feels right and does not leak.

Here is a fix for the hybrid, to get a good angle.
