I am still in search of a successful mask. I've been on CPAP since the beginning of February. The mask I got from my DME is a nasal pillow mask. I bought a Dreamwear Mask with return insurance. I have been using the return insurance to try different masks. I liked the feel of the Dreamwear but I kept taking it off so I thought I'd try another. I tried an Airfit mask - same problem and not really unlike the one I have, so I returned it. Then I decided to try nasal prongs because I thought they would be like the oxygen cannula I wore for my sleep study. Not even close. Large tubes that go on the side of your head and even the smallest prongs seemed large in my nares (I found out I have slotted nares - never noticed before). I was struggling to put it together and finally just gave up and sent it back. Didn't even try to use it because I didn't want those big prongs in my nose.
Next step is to try a nasal mask. I'm thinking of trying the Airfit P20 because it has those soft straps on the side of the head. I think it might be good for side sleepers. Anyone have an opinion? I start out the night on my back and then usually change to my side. I think I might be taking the mask off when I turn on my side. Usually I'm not aware of taking it off but one night I recall taking it off and laying it on the beside table at that point because I couldn't get comfortable and it felt like the pillows were slipping off my nose. That's why I'm thinking the nasal mask might be better. According to my machine, the fit of the mask is good. I only use it for about 3 hours a night and I have AHI's of about 8. Not very good.
Next step - nasal mask; side sleeper??
Re: Next step - nasal mask; side sleeper??
I hope you find something that works for you. I am in a similar situation in that I can't seem to find a mask that works well for me. I have used the Resmed Quattro FX for 3 years now. It does a fairly good job in terms of leaking but I have terrible pressure marks because I mostly sleep on my side.
I recently tried the Simplus FFM which I didn't like because I couldn't stand the bar on the forehead. I tried the Airfit F20 which was a really nice mask but it caused to much pressure on the bridge of my nose no matter how loose I put the straps. I tried the Amara View which I thought would be the answer for me but unfortunately it gave me terrible sinus pressure.
So last night I decided to try an old nasal mask my hubby had in the closet, an Opus 360. I liked the fact that it was so light on my face as compared to a FFM. But I was not successful with it either. I didn't really like the feel of the cushions inside my nose. The mask also seemed to constantly slip down off my head every time I moved. I got so frustrated that I just took it off. It was supposed to be an experiment to see if I could work with just a nasal mask along with most likely a chin strap as I am a mouth breather. I am beyond frustrated right now. And of course there is no help from the DME !!!!

Have you tried the ResMed F10 mask. The top of the mask is wider than the F20. I could not use the F10, but love the F20 because I have a very narrow bridge on my nose.NadiaK wrote:I tried the Airfit F20 which was a really nice mask but it caused to much pressure on the bridge of my nose no matter how loose I put the straps.

Re: Next step - nasal mask; side sleeper??
I find the Respironics Wisp nasal mask (not pillows) and headgear very comfortable as I sleep on my side. The headgear has a fabric cover so is quite soft across the cheeks, and the nasal mask covers just from the bridge of the nose to the upper lip area without spreading too wide over the cheek. There is no forehead attachment, so one can read or watch TV with it, when getting used to the feel of it.
Now I have only tried on two other masks, don't remember the names, but one had forehead attachments, and the other mask was just not the right shape and I knew it would drive me crazy. I feel I really lucked out with the Wisp because after the initial discomfort of something on my face, I've been very pleased with its performance.
Good luck in your search!
Jean

I strongly encourage you to try the "love child" of the Resmed Airfit N10 and the Respironics Wisp = the Resmed Airfit N20:

I started with the N10, then tried the Wisp, and now I'm totally sold on the N20. Resmed listened to many suggestions and molded all of the good into the N20. In my opinion, this is a much higher quality item than either of the "parents," and I feel lucky to have found it. I'm primarily a side sleeper with no issues concerning mask instability. Very comfortable.

I'm in exactly the same boat. The Dreamwear is my goto mask but I notice a difference in airflow when I lay on it. I tried and hated the nasal pillows in the P10 and tried the Wisp and woke up with a sore nose. I'm debating whether to try the N20 or the Swift Fx Nano.KTinTexas wrote:Airfit N20 is the next mask I plan to try.Comfortably Numb wrote:I strongly encourage you to try the "love child" of the Resmed Airfit N10 and the Respironics Wisp = the Resmed Airfit N20:

I had the same problem with the Wisp. The nasal cushion made the bridge of my nose sore. Also, the headgear was flimsy and didn't appear to be as well made as similar Resmed products. The new cushion design of the N20 makes it highly adaptable to most noses. They copied their headgear design from the Wisp but added some soft structural support that makes it possible to put the mask on with one hand in the dark. The strap magnets are one of the best inventions out there.tried the Wisp and woke up with a sore nose.
