CPAP Cleaner

Post by CPAPcleaner » Thu Jun 01, 2017 1:26 pm

So it seems pretty universal on this board that the So Clean is a waste of money. $300 and it doesn't do much.

My question is what would be of benefit to the CPAP user? If you could design your perfect CPAP cleaner, what features would it have? And how much do you think it should cost? Are there any features you would see as a waste?

It takes $300 in dirty money out of your billfold and life. Can be used in landfills to polute your drinking water. Lots of uses none necessary or good, but if you read the posts you already should have figured that out on your own, read them over, slower! Jim

How much does a Shill licence cost nowdays, with a franchise?

For cleaning, which the So Clean was not designed to do, I use Johnsons baby shampoo, a soft brush and hot water on the rare occasion that I feel inclined to actually clean the thing. Mostly I use unscented baby wipes.

If I actually worried about sanitizing, which I don't, I would follow the instructions from the Clinicians Guide, not a So Clean. Is getting bad buzz better than no buzz?

I would like to see a hose/mask dryer that is about the size of the new Mini Cpap unit from ResMed. You disconnect your hose from the CPAP when your done in the morning and hook it up to this device which would blow filtered warm air through the hose to the mask. The other end could be a small box with humidity sensors in it that would monitor the temp of the air inside the box and when the air was dry enough it would shut off the dryer. This would overall have a much smaller foot print then the current Hurricane dryer that we have now. I think this would help people who live in environments that are high in mold and moisture to help dry out their equipment faster. less chance of unpleasant things taking up residence in a hose and mask that is nice and dry instead of wet.

This may be a waste for some who live in an area that is dryer or has less active mold spores in the air. Some people are just lucky and never have to do much with their cpap gear to keep it healthy... There are others of us though who live in places were we really need to keep our hoses and masks dry or bad things will grow in them.

I think the So Clean it self is a novelty toy created to take money away from germaphobes. I don't think it does much of anything at all except take your money and wear out your mask cushions faster.

I would be interested to see given our experiences. From a hypothetical stand point. What kind of inventions or ideas could you see being of actual benefit. If you had to design or create something that isn't a pile of crap like the So Clean what do you think would be a good idea.

I don't think the OP was trying to be a shill for the So Clean Company.... Though if I see a 3" x 6" dryer box with a mask tray show up on the market 6 months from now I'm going to be mildly pissed. That's my two cents on the mater.

Wish you all well.

The inside of the machine and hose just don't need cleaning. At all. Maybe ever. The only things that do need it are the mask (cushion and frame) and the humidifier tank when necessary. Stop trying to reinvent what never needed inventing to begin with... I'm sure there are lots of other ways to make money.

I was under the impression that the newer Resmeds automatically went into hose dyer mode when shut off. Not so?

Sort of. They blow air through the hose and turn off the humidifier. I am not sure if the hose heater stays on or not, but I keep mine set at such a low temperature it dos not matter.

Since this is his/her first and only post, I wonder if this thread is market survey . . .
To the OP: Simple, cheap procedures are already in place.
Pick one, and use it as much or as little as makes you happy.
Be well,, happy, and treated.
Do not let the charlatans frighten you.

I do not work for So Clean - chunkyfrog is right that I'm doing my own market research. I don't think So Clean does anything worth $300. I'm here to ask you, what you would want in a CPAP cleaner.

Thank you so much for your input everyone. Please, I'd love to hear any more ideas.

I am not a patient. I actually work for a sleep doctor who is interested in developing a CPAP cleaner. We wanted to get a broader perspective than just the patients he sees. Internet forums give us access to users nationwide, in various climates. Also, people are often more willing to give their honest opinion when they aren't looking someone in the eye.

Before market research works, you have to identify a problem, then figure out a product that will solve that problem in a way and for a price that people are willing to pay. Market research figures out the way to reach those with the problem, figures out what people are willing to pay to solve the problem, and finally how to best reach and influence those people. I fail to see the problem of uncleaned CPAP machines. Finding a solution in search of a problem seems to only have worked for Steve Jobs. Even Ron Popiel was able to find a problem or pain point for his endless parade of semi-solutions.

Its all a mask needs. If the OP wants to come over and start off with my mask for research and then maybe finish off with cleaning the dishes he would be welcome.

cpap.com sells the hurricane cpap drier last I knew it costs $150.00 and it shuts off automatically when your cpap supplies are done drying there is a 15 min/30 min/ and a 60 min setting to choose from I have one of these and I am so glad that I bought it check out cpap.com for more information
