Strange lingering sensation

Post by GKevinK » Tue Nov 28, 2006 2:07 pm

Hi all,

First some context.

I'm just getting started, and last night tried the Comfort Lite 2 for the first time. I started with the simple interface, which seemed to seal well and comfortably. Around 4 a.m., though, after adjusting my sleep position I had difficulty getting the seal reseated, and instead decided to switch to the nasal pillow attachment. This seemed to seal well also, and I went back to sleep... which lasted until about 7 a.m.

The thing that is very curious to me right now is that since waking up (for about 9 hours now), I have almost continuously had this sensation of a light breeze blowing around my nose and into my eyes (especially the left one.) This is quite distracting after awhile. The sensation is even slightly present when I close my eyes.

What the heck is going on???? Has anybody experienced anything like this? Aside from this everything else seems normal.

Gosh, I never have read any post about that kind of sensation after removing a mask. Hope someone has an answer for you. Would be interesting to know how that feeling could persist on into the day without the mask and machine even being on.

It is truely strange. It's as if those areas have become hypersensitive to very small air movements.

I'm thinking that maybe I'll use a *different* mask tonight.

Well... it ended up taking about 10 hours for those additional sensations to go away. Still very weird.

Looking for something dependable last night, I went back to my Comfort Classic, and achieved two things...

1) a reasonably good night of sleep
2) re-irritating the sore between my eyebrows where the little gel bumper lands.

Sigh. I guess tonight I'm going to have to try something else. Maybe it's time to give the Comfort Curve a try.

Just guessing, but I'm wondering if the sensation you were experiencing was somewhat like the one experienced when wearing glasses for the first time? The nosepads or the plastic nosepiece tickles until one is accustomed to it.

Still, rather unusual as Laura said.

Have you tried Rested Gal's pantyhose straps? I use one on my CL 2, and it gives just the bit more support to the tube (the one that twists) so that the seal is not lost as often.

Personally, I also find that the direct seal works best--so far. I tried the simple seal once and my nose got cold, so I went back to the direct seal. Someone on the forum suggested that perhaps I had not warmed up the machine enough. I haven't tried it since, but the first thing I thought of when reading your post was that cold nose.

Best of luck.

I don't wear glasses (except sunglasses every once in awhile), so I don't know if 'tickles' is a good description of the sensation. Though it wasn't really a painful sensation, it was in some ways similar to heightened sensitivity one has when they've gotten some sort of abrasion injury... where the little hairs in the injured area become hypersensitive to touch.

I think next time I use the CL2 I'll go directly for the pillow interface and see if the sensation recurs.
