In another thread someone said I could get an APAP machine from cpap.com even if my prescription just shows CPAP (which it does, but the lines for APAP (and BIPap) are not "x'd" - is this correct or do I need to get a revised prescription?
At my first DME visit (after my physician appointment following the sleep study) I was handed a Respironics REMStar Plus M Series with C-FLex without the software module or any smartcard/software but with the integrated heated humidifier.
I just got my bill and they are (were) charging HMO Blue $2,500 for the CPAP and another $600 for the heated humidifier. Plus $175 for the mask, $60 for the headgear and $60 for the tubing. Wow!
I called and got the CPAP machine changed from a purchase to a short term rental. This lowered my out of pocket cost from $1,095.50 to $22.06 for the remainder of 2006. I was unable to get the humidifier changed to a rental and I did not even try as respects the mask, headgear or tubing. That will have to be water over the dam.
I can get the M Series auto C-Flex CPAP with the Encore Software for $706.50 (plus shipping presumably) so it costs over $300 less to get a more capable machine.
Does it make sense to get the Mako DT-3500 card reader for $24 versus the $139 that cpap.com wants? (I read the threads on the 2800.sys driver and what USB port to use/not-use) I already have a Lexar 12-in-1 multi-card reader - will that work?
So my question is, is my prescription adequate for the M Series auto C-Flex CPAP with the Encore Software?
? re Adequacy of Prescription for APAP
Yes, get the reader. I don't believe yours will work. From what I read early on, the Mako DT-3500 is the same reader anyway. And you're right, do not use the drivers that come with it. Use the drivers included in the encore pro disk. I bought the reader with standard shipping and was surprised how quickly it arrived.
Again, based on what I've read here, your current prescription should work. However, a call or an e-mail to cpap.com will certainly clarify this for you. they are very helpful.
Good luck
