Just Had My Sleep Study...

Post by JSGarner » Mon Nov 06, 2006 9:55 pm

First off, let me say, Thanks, for this site/forum. I've found more information here than all the other sites I've visited combined! Needless to say, I'm a "lifer" here now!

I just completed my sleep study last night. Although my therapist said she couldn't provide me with my diagnosis (that's got to come from my doctor), she said that since I was fitted with a CPAP during the night, "that should be a dead giveaway".

So...here's my question. What questions should I ask and/or what questions should I be prepared to answer when I meet with my doctor?

Thanks in advance for all your advice!

Get the original prescription and a copy of your sleep studies. Don't accept "We will fax your information to the DME". You can buy your stuff whereever you want.

Read more if you are asking this question. Lots of similar threads.

Know what you think you want the doc to prescribe before you go.

Know how you want the prescription written, heated humidifier, if you want Cflex or not, mask on prescription, patient choice, full face or nasal....

1. What was my AHI (apneas and hypopneas per hour)?
2. What pressure was needed to resolve the problem?
3. Do I have any sleep problems other than apnea (restless leg syndrome, etc.)?

Also ask politely, but don't take "no" for an answer :

4. Can I have a copy of my sleep study?
5. Can I have a copy of my prescription?
6. Can you prescribe a unit that will help me handle the pressure (cflex, or better yet, auto cflex)?
[If you need pressure over 14 cm, 7. Will you prescribe a an auto bipap unit so I can handle the pressure better?]

I am sure there are other good questions, but this will give you a start.

Best wishes,

Moogy
