cpap motorcycle touring

Post by rlast1 » Tue Oct 31, 2006 3:20 pm

Hello I am new to this awesome forum. I am an avid motorcyclist and love to camp. My problem is I need a machine that I can re-charge from the twelve cigarette lighter on my Harley-Davidson during my ride. I am considering building a trailer to carry a small quiet Honda Generator, but would prefer a cpap better suited to my traveling needs. I see several machines with battery back-up, but I vever have access to household power on the road to re-charge. I generally camp in remote locations with little to no ammenities. Does anybody have any sugestions?
THanks

The P&B 420E and the Remstars run directly off of 12DC power. A single automotive battery will give you 3-4 nights use from them depending on your pressure. If you used another small motorcycle battery you should be able to get at least 8hrs use from it. If you put a battery isolator between the harley and the trailer it would protect the cpap battery from discharging the harley battery but the charging circuit on the harley should recharge the cpap battery. For charging use the harley when you ride during the day, you could optionally put a solar charger on the trailer so it also recharges during the day. You could also go with an inverter/battery combo instead of the generator. But those little Honda EU1000 will give good clean power for 6.5hrs of run time, about the same for the EU2000. I used to own a EU1000 it was great but it wouldn't run the microwave in my trailer so I sold it and got a EU2000, can connect two together for doubling of power much better but also bigger. The EU1000 would run just about any cpap and humidifier. I think the EU1000 has 8.5 amp 12VDC charger if you wanted to use the generator to only recharge the battery. I know the UU2000 has a 12.5amp 12VDC charger.

I have a P-B 420e and have run it for 6 nights on a 48 amp/hr battery pack and still had plenty of charge left ,
I also ride bikes but at this stage haven't used the cpap with the bike
My battery pac would be to heavy to carry on a bike probably be ok in a trailer
Regards Jacko

FYI......... actually the Honda EU2000 will run at the lower setting, which is MORE than enough for all XPAP's and their humidifiers, for 14 hours on it's 1 gallon tank of gas. I know....... I've had to do it!
ResMed S8 Vantage EPR Autoset (10-16cm H2O)
ResMed H3i integrated Heated Humidifier
ResMed Swift Nasal Interface- Medium

8 years and going strong!
