ice ice baby
I did a search, and found out I shouldn't be embarrassed to ask this question, because it appears other people have had the same idea. I am in my fourth week of trying to perfect my treatment enough to get comfortable (all night).I now have a more comfortable mask, a chin strap,(until now I thought I only had trouble keeping my mouth shut when I was awake),anyway...I am still feeling as though I'm suffocating when I try to get to sleep. The air seems to warm, the heater humidifier makes it even worse. My question is...would it be harmful to put a couple of frozen distilled water icecubes in the humidifier resevoir,so as to breath cooler air initially so I can at least get to sleep? I don't want to freeze my wife out of bed by lowering the room temp either
I presume that you're not going to use ANY heat in the humidifier (like shut it off)......? That'll work!
It's easier to just put a smaller amount of (distilled) water in a small bottle and put it in the freezer.....but don't let it completely freeze (but still pourable) and then pour that in the humidifier shortly before going to bed.
Works for me.
I usually keep a small bottle of water in the refrigerator for topping off my tank. Last night it was almost a little TOO cool.
Good luck,
Den

I suggest you review your physics before you get too excited.
The water- even if frozen- will soon come to room temp. If there is heat, it will make it quicker, if not. then you will have a passover humidifier which, with the small area will do very little.
There is only so much energy stored in the lowered temp water and then it will be the same as putting room temp water into the chamber.
You will not cool the room this way.
For a comparison, fill a glass with ice and put it in front of a fan and watch it and check the temp of the room.
Never be embarrassed to ask questions. Just keep in mind that the answers given by some here are dumber than the questions.
Good night, Danny Rolling, RIP. I remember the day we stared each other down. I did not blink.Just looked at him.

Sorry I was away for a while {not sleeping} ha ha. thanks for the response all of you, I am going to try the cold water method first, if that doesn't work then I'll try ice, of course no heat! I'm certain that I will get a handle on this therapy and join the masses who are getting a good nights sleep.
Thanks again,

Just a thought what pressure are you set atmekos wrote:I am still feeling as though I'm suffocating when I try to get to sleep
If you have a low pressure that also could contribute to the suffocating feeling.

It is soooo amazing how often a person comes and asks a question and then totally ignores any replies.Anonymous wrote:Sorry I was away for a while {not sleeping} ha ha. thanks for the response all of you, I am going to try the cold water method first, if that doesn't work then I'll try ice, of course no heat! mekos question was "My question is...would it be harmful to put a couple of frozen distilled water icecubes in the humidifier resevoir,so as to breath cooler air initially so I can at least get to sleep?"
Seems like he got some good answers and some other answers and is satisfied that he knows what to experiment with next.

Tom-I went there at first too but on second reading I think the room temp comment was that he did not want to turn the thermostat down to cool the whole room-not that he thought the ice in the humidifier would cool the whole room.

Hi mekos
Something else no one said - some people don't need to use the humidifier. I can't tolerate it, ESPECIALLY not heated. I too feel suffocated. So I just don't use it. You could try not using the humidifier at all. If you have any bad side effects (congestion, etc) as a result, you can always go back to using it.

I apologize if it seemed as though I ignored anyone, there may have been posts after I logged off, I tried the Ice cubes last night and I noticed a slight cooling of the air, I did seem to fall asleep better than with just plain water in the humidifier. as with any "experiment" one must see if the results can be duplicated. If time allows I will post tomorow.
