Hi Folks,

I'm new here, just got my equipment (looks fancy;) today and hope it will really help me sleep better. Good to see a community like this for the many questions that may come up, so I decided to join even before my first night. Please, wish me luck!

First night went ok I guess... I had trouble falling asleep because I was a bit anxious and obviously had some discomfort being new to this, with the mask and everything. I believe though that I fell asleep during the later portions of the night, because I think I had some dreams. A couple of times the air pressure was pretty strong, maybe because my nose has a tendency to become very stuffy during the night (I take Nasonex for Allergies wich helps a lot). Nevertheless, I actually feel pretty good this morning, though I think I may had only 4 or 5 hours of sleep overall. I hope it gets better when I get more used to it.

Welcome musiccomposer1968.

There are bunch of really knowledgeable people here (I'm not one of them YET)to help out with this new way of life.Nasal congestion can be a huge barrier when trying to use a nasal interface.Have you thought about having a Full face mask on hand when breathing through your nose is impossible.I am currently fighting the same issue and this method allows me to continue my therapy when my allergies are acting up.

Good luck!
If you are as your username suggests maybe you could help out in the thread "How about a theme song"

Second night: Anxiety is gone... pretty much no problem to fall asleep. However, I woke up my usual one hour later and mouth was very dry, so I can't seem to keep it shut. Tried to support my jaw to keep closed but struggled a number of times later with my lips giving way... I guess I'll ask my provider if they have a full face mask for me to try... other than that it still seems to have been a pretty good night compared to the last couple of month without the machine...

Third night: New full face mask... I think I got a couple of decent hours while getting used to this, but still far from good. Feel a bit edgy and tired today.

I'm gonna look into that theme song thing...

I compose mostly electronica / dance and orchestral film soundtrack style music. In my day job I am a Video Game Composer.

But today I'm very tired, more so than before I started my treatment... I just hope that this is temporary because of the adjustment period.

musiccomposer, yeah even at best it can take awhile (months, even!!) to get used to this crazy new way of trying to "sleep." A mask that is both comfortable and effective will be the biggest piece of the puzzle to get right.

I'd have to wear a full face mask all the time instead of the more comfortable (for me) nasal pillows masks, if I didn't tape my mouth closed each night:

Another thing to consider is keeping the hose from tugging at a mask and causing mask leaks:

When you have a chance, dig into Mile High Sleeper's wonderful info:

Cool, thanks for describing your music, Chris. ..... Is electronica/dance the same as doof doof? (a composer friend mentioned that term to me)

You know, this composer friend I know also has the same full face mask you do. He said something to me just today that I found interesting. He had taken a readout of his auto cpap to his sleep doctor. Everything looked good. There was some minor mask leaking but nothing so bad. But the interesting thing the doc said was that he noticed the mask leaks occurred about nearly every two hours. He suspected that when my friend reached REM stage he would move around a little more while sleeping, accounting for the minor mask leaking.

Good luck with your cpap. I'm hoping the full face mask works for you after you've gotten used to wearing it. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Linda: I sure hope my music doesn't fall into the category "doof doof". In Germany (where I'm originally from) that term would translate "dumb dumb"...
Ok, the urban dictionary says this:
1. doof doof

Dance or techno music, usually played loudly in P (Australian Probationary License) plater cars. The P platers usually hoon around town doing Imfamous planned out laps while listening to Mega Doof Doof.

2. doof doof

Australian slang for techno music. Term first used in 1994 at the EBOM warehouse (Sydney Australia) by Sebastian Chan and the 'Non Bossy Posse'

Wow, those Australians...

Well, techno music belongs to the genre of dance music and most dance music could be counted to electronica. My electronic music is generally a bit more melodic and slower than techno and could be better compared to lounge / chillout with some new age elements. Yes, I have done some techno music in the past, but at least 10 years ago...

Now to my last night: pretty good - I think I got at least 5 good hours and I feel quite rested this morning. I made a minor modification to the mask to stop the most annoying leaks. More about that later.

Yes, my body still feels tired, but it definitely did something to my mind. Everything is much more clear today... vision, hearing, smell, thoughts. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Anyways, here's what I did to my mask: After a lot of adjusting the fasteners, I still had 2 points of leaks and they were right into either my left or right eye. When I held my finger there lightly it stopped, so I figured I could try some minor mod to tighten that spot. I found some rubber pieces in my junk drawer that looked promising and started to cut them to the right size and jammed them lightly between the outer plastic and the silicone part of the mask right where the leaks happened. Tried in on and the leaks are totally gone...

Here's some pics:
