New mask needed - side sleeper help!

Post by SeattleJen » Wed Sep 27, 2006 4:16 pm

Hi Everyone!

I think I have posted about this in a way before but now that I am actually using my cpap I have more questions.

When I first got my machine the tech and I decided on the swift mask system due to the following factors - it barely touches my face (which is breakout prone), I can put my glasses on if i need to, and - most importantly - I can still deal with my very long hair with the thing on (usually I sleep with it up in a bun).

Well the swift isn't working great as when I sleep on my side the nostril pillows start to leak. Also I hate how it has stretched out my nostrils (but I think this is due to my attempt to tighten the mask as it felt like it was slipping on my hair.

I am hopefully going soon to get fitted for a new mask... but I want your suggestions first!

Thoughts?!?

with the swift... if you want to try this about the slipping... is your hair over or under the bottom strap?

try putting it over the strap. Seemed to hold it better for mine. I don't use the swift anymore 'cause I was mouthbreathing/leaking.

I found the Swift to be great for side sleeping, AFTER I followed Triden's fix on it! (Check it out and see if it will help you.)
Just type in "Solution for Swift side sleepers" on the search, and you will see it come up!

I use the Comforlite 2 with the nasal pillows. I am a 100% side sleeper and find it very comfortable. It doesn't get in my way at all. Best of luck.

Side Sleeping

Post by kteague » Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:12 pm

Hi. A few months ago there was discussion on here about bed pillows (as opposed to nasal pillows) and someone said the TempurPedic pillow helped them as a side sleeper because the face doesn't sink in enough to shift the nosegear, and there is little movement of the pillow itself. I had one years ago but someone in the family hijacked it. Although I have the mattress topper and find it amazingly comfortable (and I don't get comfortable easily), I've been unable to purchase the pillow. Well, this weekend at a festival at my mother's nursing home, someone donated 2 new pillows to sell, and I got them both for $5. In 3 nights my Breeze's leak rate has stayed between .01 and .03 and the pillow is all that's changed. (It used to run mostly between .40 and .90). Oh, and the benefit of a shallow imprint and little movement only happens with the higher density foams (mine are a 5).

Hi ALL

I thought I'd have to start a new thread/Announcement!!

I have my first replacement mask via insurance.
This time I chose the Activa due to recommendations here by side-sleepers.

I 'tried it out' for a few minutes this afternoon - moved my mouth all around, blew up my cheeks, quickly did my 'fish dance' - flipping from left side to right side and back again....WOW! It stayed with me, and the tiny, tiny leaks were TEMPORARY. I know I 'should' be in bed now, getting the most from the promises I believe this new mask offers, but I wanted to share my excitement. Well, it IS Halloween!!! - almost.

...funny how little it takes to make us 'happy', eh?

Oh, and I resurrected my 'memory foam', specially-designed, weighs-a-ton -pillow, and it does seem to help. However, it's a little hard on the knuckes, when one is used to ' punching and fluffing a 100% goose down pillow! But, I DO keep the down one around just for practice!

I do so hope that I'm not going to be disappointed with this - but, as with most things, adjustments can be made. Visibility isn't as great as with the CL2, but I'm not awake that long anyway. It IS more in keeping with the 'season', but who cares, if it works for me. The CL2 CAN spoil one with its light weight, and all the other great features. Maybe it was just feeling under-appreciated, so started to give me problems, what do you think?

Have a good night, everyone.
