Breeze Headgear Question

Post by cpapjack » Mon Sep 25, 2006 12:12 pm

Is the headgear for the Breeze known to be of poor quality? I've used my Breeze for a total of 5 nights and the straps are starting to fray already.

Jack

I am on month four of Breeze use, and no problems so far. I don't have a lot of experience with other interfaces, but the only part of the Breeze that seems especially 'delicate' to me is the little tightening nut on the plenum that keeps it from rotating out of position once you have a good fit. The straps are in good shape on mine. I wash them every coouple of weeks, but I let them air dry rather than using the clothes dryerto help preserve the elastic.

Breeze condition

Post by kteague » Mon Sep 25, 2006 8:53 pm

I have used my Breeze for about 9 months, but considering that I average only a couple hours a night, that probably translates to less than 3 months wear. Straps are fine thusfar in regards to condition - just wish they were more stable so I didn't have to reinforce them.

The strap on my headgear seems to work pretty well actually. I took off the front clip that the strap attaches to because it kept coming off and plus it was digging into my forehead. Works much better without that clip, or whatever you want to call it.

My Breeze is the only interface I use although I have tried several others, but I always go back to the Breeze. I have been on Cpap for 2 years and this is my second replacement. I've never had a problem with the straps. The only problem I have had has been the plenum (the hard plastic piece that holds the pillows) developing pin hole size leaks in the thin mold seam that joins the two halves together.
Best wishes.

I've read that a dab of superglue works for this.

I've tried the different glues and the hot soldering iron trick but have not met with success with any fix other than the PVC cement suggestion. I can't remember who offered that suggestion but it did work for me.

I have also used the Breeze exclusively at night (I use the Resmed Ultra Mirage Full Face for daytime napping) for 2 years (the same one) and have had no problems at all although the pad in the back is being to get worn a bit. I haven't had any pin hole leaks in the plenum either. Maybe I'm just really lucky or I got a really good one. I recently bought a Hybrid off of this board and will be trying it soon. I hope it works as well as the Breeze. I have to tape my mouth shut with the Breeze but other than that, I really love it. I just take the nasal pillows out and wash them about every two weeks with baby shampoo. I know I probably should wash them more often but I'm lazy when it comes to cleaning the thing. I only wash the velcro straps about every 2 or three months and I wash the plenum out about every month. I clean the plenum off daily with baby wipes. Sometimes, I think you can wash them too much and wear them out a lot quicker. When I read the instruction manual that came with mine, it never said to immerse the head gear in water. It said to just clean it off with a damp cloth. Maybe I got some unusual insturction manual but, hey, it has worked for me. I haven't had a cold in the last two years or I probably would have cleaned it more thoroughly and more often.

Breeze problems
As I replied earlier I have had none with the straps.
I have had problems with pin holes in the plastic plenum chamber which I fixed with two pack epoxy.
I had problems with the clip at the front falling off so I stuck that on with some industrial double sided tape. It does not move now.
I have also done another modification to improve the airflow.
I still think that this is a well designed mask let down by poor manufacturing and quality control.
Despite this I would buy another.
With it I get a good 7 to 8 hours sleep a night

Are you still using the modified headgear for your Breeze?
