Anyone find the Hans Rudolph to be great?

Post by roadwarrior » Sun Sep 17, 2006 7:29 pm

I'm currently looking at a FF mask. I tried and didn't care for the F&P 431 FlexFit. leaked like a sieve. The main one in consideration has been the Ultra Mirage FF mask. I've noticed however that the Hans Rudolph is a full silicone seal without the typical hard frame. Sounds like it would be not only very comfortable but seal well. Anyone have good results with one here?

Yes - there is a long-time poster - Severeena - who has posted extensively on that mask. Run a search on "Hans Rudolph" and you will get lots of hits.

I've also been looking at this mask. I can find very little info about it. I hope someone uses it so I can get enough feedback to make a decision as to whether I should try it or not.

Hans Rudolph

Post by GoofyUT » Sun Sep 17, 2006 8:00 pm

I tried one out at my DME's. Though VERY comfortable, I found that it too, leaked like a sieve, and neither the RT nor I could adjust the leaks away despite considerable efforts. It also comes with VERY FUNKY head-gear that looks like it would be better represented in the Frederick's of Hollywood catalog. I wound up going with an F&P HC431A, but alas, that too leaked beyond what I could control.

Please bear in mind though, that these impressions of the Hans Rudolph mask are based on about a half-hour or so at my DME's.

Hope this helps.

Can't say mush about the Han Rudolph except that there are two styles of headgear for the Hans Rudolph. The funky cap style and the strap style.

I have one that is brand new in the box because it leaks so badly that I can not use it. I have both head gears and although the newer head gear is better I still had to tighten the mask so tight that I could not sleep with it on. The Ultra Mirage FF is a much better choice in my opinion.

I have always wanted to try one, but like the hybrid, would like more positive feedback. They are both so expensive! I've tried the UMFF with too many leaks! Would love a good full-face mask to try!

I got one with the "strap" style head gear. I even got Hans Rudolph to send me an experimental head gear to try out and give them feed back on. Regardless of any adjustments made or head gear used, I too had leaks... specifically around the bridge of the nose. Now the mask occupies space in a bag in the back of my closet until they come out with a different style of head gear, at which time I might try it again.

Lot of people don't like them, but the Comfortfull, did pretty good by me for a while, after my nose grew back. I liked the 431, but had a problem with the numbers with it. Jim

Pssst, Goofproof, isn't the HC431 (I'm assuming this is the model you're talking about) an F&P mask?

I tried a Hans Rudolph FF mask once...for about 10 minutes. Leakiest mask I've ever put on my face. It was a Small, which is what I usually wear in FF masks. I've read since then that HR masks run bigger than most masks and that they have other smaller sizes, Petite and what-not. But the more I looked at the way the cushion was designed, I felt pretty sure that even smaller sizes would be apt to "blow out" and leak for me. I could be wrong about that, but the cushion looks nothing like the designs of the "least leaky" masks I've tried.

Severeena is the only poster on the board I can recall who gets along with it. Surely there were a few more.

As with any mask, it may suit some people but isn't one I'd want to try again.

I for one love this mask and have been using it for almost a year. For me the leaks are usually just above the leak rate specified by the manufacturer. I used the UMFF for about 3 months and got tired of the leaks and my nose getting chewed up

In reality the HR mask is a very poorly designed, non functioning product that is grossly over priced. It leaks badly, has one of the worst head gear ever designed and is the highest priced mask on the market.

Hosed All NIght you are the second person to accuse of being a Hans Rudolph Sales Rep or what ever.

I just happen to like the mask and it works for me. I always stated that not all masks are for everyone.

What may work for one may not work for another.

I am personally in favor of the Hans Rudolph, because it is the only mask I can use without leaks. Now my mask and the swivel has worn out.

I am now hoping to get my new HR and my head gear.

They no longer are using the strap head gear because it did not meet the HR standard.

HR is coming out with a new strap head gear in the near future.
