Need help - BiPAP Auto Encore Prescription

Post by schmidtwi » Sun Sep 17, 2006 9:33 am

OK, I just received my new BiPAP Auto w/BiFLEX, as a replacement for my BiPAP Pro2. Thanks to everyone here who helped me gain enough knowledge to take data back to my Dr. to convince him I needed the Auto.

My recommended titration was 11EPAP/16IPAP, so DME set the AUTO up for 6/20. I immediately changed the prescription via Encore to 8/20, with a Max Pressure of 8. I will play with the settings based on my data. I already upped the EPAP to 10 based on bad AHI & VSI.

However, when I set the prescription up, I don't have a screen for ramp time, and I'm wondering why (I did have that screen for the Pro2). I am choosing the "BiPAP Auto" machine. Is this correct? And since I don't know the machine sequence to change ramp time, can anyone help with that?

Thanks in advance!

Auto Bi-PAP start at your low setting, no crutches needed. Jim

I use a ramp even tho I use the auto biflex bipap setting. Since my lowest exhale setting is 13, I like to ramp for 5 minutes starting at 9.5. Although I use biflex, I just checked on my machine to see what screens come up when i set it for auto bipap.

To set the ramp, get into the clinincal menu.
(Schmidtwi, you obviously know how to reach the clinical menu, but for those who don't, you can access this menu by turning off the machine, then holding down the two little arrow buttons while turning it back on. This works easier if you have the machine plugged into a power strip. Then toggle through the settings using the heat/ramp buttons and the little arrows.)

The first thing you see is the letters indicating whether you want to set it for cpap, auto bipap, auto biflex, etc.
Advance to the next setting by pushing the right little arrow button.
Next is the low setting for exhale
next is the highest limit for inhale setting
Next is the pressure support setting
Next is the biflex setting if you are in biflex auto, or the rise time if you are in autobipap setting
Next is the RAMP TIME
Next is the starting pressure for the ramp.

If you keep going through the settings, there are several more that don't pertain to this discussion.

Push the ON button to exit the Clinician Menu.

One further comment, schmidtwi. Have you tried the biflex auto setting? It is very comfortable. ...

Thanks for the help, Moogy. And also to Rested Gal for the private message.

Right now I'm using the BiPAP Auto with BiFlex setting. I adjusted the EPAP to 10 last night, but I may go higher, as my numbers still weren't great and I know most of my snores & A/H's come on the exhale.

I can see why you use the ramp, as 13 is pretty high. A slight ramp up would be more comfortable at the start.

I'm leaving for a 2 night business trip today (first time on the road w/BiPAP), but will adjust my ramp by Wednesday night when I return.

Thanks again!
Bill
