Hybrid and S8 Elite

Post by Arizona-Willie » Thu Sep 14, 2006 11:01 am

Just talked to my DME cause it was time to reorder supplies and he said I could get a new mask every 3 months!!

So I ordered a Hybrid. Thought I would like to try one out. I can always buy a new cushion for my Activa at cpap if the Hybrid doesn't work too well for me. Then in 3 months I can just order new cushions for the Activa from the DME.

Anyway .. is anyone using the Hybrid with the ResMed S8 Elite?

What settings should i use for the leak etc. etc.?

Actually none of the ResMed mask settings are geared to account for the much, much higher exhaust leak rate that is normal for the Hybrid. Probably doesn't matter much which mask setting you choose, other than if you choose the Full Face setting I believe the ResMed machine acts in a certain way if a FF mask is removed. Standard, Swift, or any of the regular mask settings should work ok as long as you know that the leak rate you're going to see with the Hybrid is going to be higher than usual.

I don't think I'd choose the full face mask setting, even though the Hybrid *is* a FF mask. With the already high built-in leak rate from the Hybrid, if you had significant additional leaks from the pillows or mouth cushion area, that might cause the ResMed machine to think a FF mask had come off, and perhaps stop the treatment until the leak was taken care of. Not sure about that.

Makes me happy to be using Respironics and Puritan Bennett machines that don't require choosing a mask setting at all. I can mix/match machine/mask without having to guess/mess with a "mask setting."

Sorry....couldn't resist adding that. Your machine is fine, Willie. Hope the Hybrid works well for you!
