I heard about a friend who was trying to sleep in a motel with his CPAP machine. Kids were running in the hall keeping him awake. He went to the door with his mask still on. When the kids saw him, all he heard was doors slamming shut.

Fright mask
I cannot be alone in my concept of using the mask/interface for a Halloween costume. Your friend beat me to it!
BTW, that is why I always take earplugs to a new place. It has been a habit for several years, and avoids those less-than-restful nights when the unusual noises from a different place arouse a peaceful sleep.
Depending on the hospital, earplugs can be a real plus there, too. When staying in an older, but highly regarded, hospital for a week there was a monitor that sounded like a phone ringing. My roommate asked after her first half-hour there, "Why doesn't someone answer that phone?" Those earplugs were a real sleepsaver--especially with the Foley catheter. Never got up or woke up in the night for a week, except when the staff would scare me half to death by waking me up. I did not hear them coming!
My next hospital stint was in a brand, spanking new one and it was very quiet--except for the nasogastric tube and the noise of the machine. I inserted the earplugs, but it only made the noise from the tube more noticable. Who knew?

Wish I could get that reaction! My kids think it's great fun to come in just after I'm all taped up and start up a conversation with Dad. The weird thing is - their starting to understand me. Before I started taping they would do the same thing as soon as I dawned the mask, they thought it was sooo.. funny to listen to Dad try to talk with air whooshing out of his mouth. KIDS! --- BT

Kids are great!
I used to go into my parents' bedroom, lift up their eyelids, and say, "Mommy (or Daddy) are you in there?" I'm quite sure they LOVED it!
However, their ability to understand you reminded me that the young learn foreign languages so easily. Surely with your mouth taped you sound as if you are speaking a foreign language? Or at least a foreign accent?

Allow me...
LOL!
Just allow me to teach your children the "are you in there" move, and they'll be pulling off the tape to talk to you!
Good sleeping.
