Suggestions for FF mask please
I have a ReMed S8 Elite and currently use the Activa mask with excellent results.
I have a nice fat face and no leak problem.
I was thinking of perhaps getting a FF mask in case I got a cold or something one day.
From what I've seen on here, nasal masks don't work well then for many folks.
So what would be a good mask that would work with the S8?

Not trying ot start ResMed vs Remstar war or anything like that ... but I am curious how you came to this conclusion?oldgearhead wrote:I would try these two:
2) The Hybrid. However, Hybrids prefer RemStars over S8s.
I had not heard this before but I am interested since I have an S8 machine.

here's the difference between UMFF and hybrid, aside from fit: the UMFF is a lot on your face, but it's spread out. the hybrid is less on your face, but it's very concentrated. that may be a hard concept to grasp until you've tried it, unfortunately.
never gave comfortfull 2 a good run, so dunno. seems similar to UMFF.
f&p 431 has fans, although i found it claustrophobic, and it made me hot and sweaty.

I'm tossing around the same thing. It seems that for a side sleeper, the mask coming into contact with the pillow may cause shifting/leak problems. Is one better than the other for side sleeping? And then it seems that most of them have to have the straps cinched down so tightly to maintain a seal. Would like to give the hybrid a try but the consensus seems to be about 50/50 - it's either loved or hated. For the cost of it, I sure would like to see better odds - but then it seems that those odds are about the norm for FF masks. I also have a beard and 'stach and am wondering if this is going to be a big problem. If Jim would get his head out of that damn computer I might be able to see if his face looks anything like mine (God forbid that should be anyones misfortune) - if so, I might get the Comfortfull 2 a shot. --- BT

i'm a side sleeper, so my opinions reflect that. but no mustache or beard.
i use the umff adjusted pretty tight, and occasionally, i have gotten nose bridge wounds, from where it shifts onto my nose. but it doesn't leak. sometimes i want relief from the marks i get on the front of my face, which PADACHEEK doesn't reach. so i get tired of the pressure all over my face. but overall, the mask does the job.
with hybrid, there's not a lot of forgiveness when the pillows shift, and it leaks, even if the face part is tight. i'm guessing the people who have done well with it have noses that precisely fit the pillows configuration, and i'm not sure that my nose is a great fit. i don't have a fat face, but my face sure looks fat when i get the hybrid on--it pushes everything around my nose and eyes partcularly together. i don't care about winning any beauty contests with it on, but it creates a lot of intense pressure and a feeling of don't move, or the pillows will shift. i don't know whether i feel more pressure than others do because i don't have a fat face. (my face is not skinny, though.) i'm still working with it to see if i can get it better. i hope there's a payoff here.

Full Face Mask
The flexfit HC431 is great. Very comfortable & comes with 3 differen sizes for the mask. One mask & 3 inserts. Much better that the respironics one.

UMFF
Caroline,
I am having the same problem - I have adjusted my ff mask loosely, tight, etc. and I still am having leaks!
I just can't keep my mouth shut at night and need either a chin strap that works or a FF mask that does not leak!
Guess I'm asking too much?

What a coincidence...my DME called me today to tell me that my insurance allows for a new mask this week. I've got an appt., and I plan on trying out the Hybrid and the UMFF. I'm sure I'll be taking home one of those, because I'm concerned with "stuffy nose" season coming real soon.byront wrote: Would like to give the hybrid a try but the consensus seems to be about 50/50 - it's either loved or hated. I've got a beard too, but I wouldn't hesitate to shave it, if it means getting a good fit, and I am definitely spoiled by my Mirage Activa.
We shall see.....
My main mask is the UMFF and has been for almost 2 years. I'm on my 2nd one now. I've used a nasal interaface and still do for a little break, but always go back to my UMFF. I've got the top strap fairly loose and the bottom strap kind of medium tight. I'm a side sleeper and use a memory foam pillow and sleep on the edge of it. As long as my pressure stays under about 15 or 16, minimal leaks and rude sounds from the mask.
Good luck!

I would go with the Hans Rudolph Full Face Mask.
I really like that one. I have just ordered my 4th one.
I like back up to the back up.
