I have a cpap set at 15. I wake up several times per week with my heart racing. I'm thinking I need more pressure?
The machine I have is maxed out at 15. Should I get one that goes higher?
I would like to avoid the expense of another sleep study.
Would a new machine, maybe a self titrating model be good for my situation? That would avoid the fee$ (I already know I need cpap). If so can you reccomend a specific model/ place to buy?
I haven't been sleeping well at all lately. I'm not sure if I attribute that excluseively to sleep apnea though as I often did or do and am rather comfortable with the machine and all. My doctor prescribed Ambien CR 6.5mg which worked well with the samples I tried. My concern is the waking up with the racing heart and whether that is something I want to risk sleeping through? or if Ambien would cause me to do so?
It was this post that made me think to ask here..

I'm glad I found this board and I hope to get your opinions...on the med and the pressure/ new machine etc? I have maybe $1200 set aside for medical expenses and want to spend it wisely!
Thanks

Confused about pressure, machines and Ambien...
Could you please fill out your profile or at least tell us what equipment you have? (specifically, the CPAP model and mask)
All of the CPAPs I've heard of in recent times go to a pressure of 20 cm., so I don't think it's "maxed out". If you're wearing a nasal mask, it's possible your leaking air out your mouth and getting virtually no benefit from your therapy. You could find this out by taping your mouth shut at night. Also, if you awaken with a dry mouth, that's another sign your mouth leaking/breathing.
A newer APAP/CPAP with recording capabilities would definitely be cheaper than another sleep study.
Anyway, please give us some more details.
Best wishes,
Den
