I did it!

Post by NyNurse33 » Sun Sep 03, 2006 7:32 am

I finally used the mirage swift last night for the first time since I've had cpap (4 weeks), but only b/c my nasal mask is getting very uncomfortable and I pratically ripped it off of me last night, before putting on the swift. A few questions: Why is my mask suddenly becoming untolerable to me? It was working fine for the first 3 weeks. Its leaking more, so I tighten it, which then makes it cut into the area above my lip. I just can't seem to get it to fit well anymore. And before anyone talks about washing it with vinegar and all that, I have. Is it possible that these masks wear out this quickly (4 weeks). The swift ended up working pretty well, felt like I could move around more, if it started to leak, I just moved slightly and it worked back the seal on its own. The true test will be how I feel today. Yesterday I felt like crap, b/c the night before the mask was giving me problems (leaks). The air coming out of the swift is definetly more pronounced than my mask which sends it out along the tubing, but I just told my husband to turn the other way (I need to wear this thing, dammit and I don't care how you feel, believe me you'll want me to start getting a good nights sleep). The only thing I noticed this am, is that my nares seem a little swollen. Feel like I have a fatter nose. Is this normal? Anyone else experience this and will it go away today? I didn't have it to tight either. I think it was goofyut who told me if it was making my nose look like a pug, then I've had it too tight, which is what I was doing when I've tried it in the past and didn't stick with it. Well once again, thanks for all your help!

It took a couple nights for my nose to get used to the swift. After that I am not sore at all. Just hang in there.

Swift

I have read on a prior post on the swift that sometimes it helps if you start your Cpap and then reposition your mask. Once the airflow is started the pillows expand and tat allows you to get an easier seal. Also have your husband help you check to see if you do have the right size pillows on your swift. My DME set me up for the small ones at first. With my wifes help we figured out that the large ones gave me a better fit. My Ultra Mirage has been fitted a little small for me as well we think, so next time my wife is going to go with me to help me get a good fit.

Post by whatrdreamsmadeof » Sun Sep 03, 2006 2:45 pm

I TOO TRIED THE SWIFT MASK TWICE FOR ABOUT A WEEK EACH TIME. IT MADE MY NARES SORE ALSO AND STARTED TO BREAK DOWN THE SKIN UNDER MY NOSE......I REALLY LIKED THE CONCEPT AND HEAD COMFORT ALL I COULD FIGURE OUT WAS THAT MY NARES WERE TOO SMALL FOR THE NASAL PAD
I OPTED FOR THE BREEZE AND I LOVE IT.....GOOD LUCK WITH IT I WISH IT HAD WORKED FOR ME, ELLEN

I don't think they have a muchtache to trim ... I do though ... and do just fine with mine.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

One of your questions was do these masks wear out this quickly. On my ComfortLite2 simple cushion, the insurance covers 2 per month!! I've been getting about 4 weeks before the kind of leaking starts that you just can't seem to fix no matter what you do.

It is still a mystery to me how a mask that was so comfortable last night can be driving me nuts tonight! But, that's the way it is sometimes. Your nares will toughen up pretty quickly. I've found that alternating between two or more masks every couple nights will help from irritating one spot too much.

CPAP is alot like playing golf. Sometimes the putter goes "cold" and you've got to try another one out.
