SPAMMERS

Post by tlc95066 » Fri Sep 01, 2006 9:14 am

Wow - the spammers are hitting at a high rate of speed this morning!
I think I must have zapped 25 or so this morning alone!

I've been zapping them too, but I sure wish we had the option to zap them when they are within the subject header. Right now we can only do it if the subject is SPAM

Hey, I have been getting my AK47 finger really pumping lately just blasting those spam aliens outta here but they survive and come back for seconds and thirds. I just killed 3, one of which I killed a half dozen times last night on the exact same thread. Zombie spam I tell you, it's Zombie spam.

It looks like this site has turned into a spam zapping contest that certainly detracts fro the purpose of the forum.

Maybe it is important to some to have a high number of visits and this somehow is desired.

I vote to come up sith SOMEWAY to prevent them from spamming.

I have never seen a real good reason to allow unregistered to post.

Well guest posting is required. That's been established. Some people just don't want to register or log in -- that's fine.

There's still ways to eliminate or at least greatly reduce spam. I know of several... If they'd only give me access to the source, I could fix it. Hehe.

Well, if they would ever implement a protocol that allows you to punch someone via TCP/IP, I could do something also.

you are probably seeing a lot more spam because some of us members came to the conclusion that hitting that delete button was not only a stupid idea but a complete waste of our time, a band-aid approach for someone else's problem who won't lift a finger to resolve it.

I have better things to do then come here, look for spam, hit the delete button then stare at the main index.

fact is deleting spam does absolutely nothing to curtail it.

there are many more effective ways already suggested to control spam than having all your members hit the delete button which does absolutely nothing to address the problem at the source.

I agree and I will not zap any more spam.

I would hope others would not for a few days to see how effective the new attempts are.

Well, call me a fool, but I'm still zapping - just did a dozen or so.

Johnny's said he's going to implement more effective measures in a few days. Johnny's got integrity, so it seems a good bet that the changes will happen as stated. I'm OK with that and I'd hate to see the board deteriorate in the meantime.

Like all of us, Johnny doesn't have unlimited resources to deal with this problem. I'd guess that Johnny pays by the minute every time he has to have changes made to any part of his website. It seems like Johnny manages his existing resources wisely, so I figure a few more days of zapping spam isn't going to hurt much.

After a few more days . . . we may all be bemoaning the good old days when it was fun to come here and whack spam.

Regards,
Bill
