SNORE INDEX AND MASK TYPE

Post by VerySleepy » Mon Aug 21, 2006 5:00 pm

About 2 weeks ago I switched from a full-face mask to a nasal mask due to forehead irritation. Monitoring my readings with MyEncore, everything is about the same except for "Snore Index". It went fro 150-300 with the full-face mask to between 5 and 10 with the nasal mask.

Is it possible the change was this radical, or is it more likely that my machine is not "picking up" the snores since my mouth is now out of the loop?

Thanks, David

If your snore rate was that high with the FF Mask, it wasn't working for some reason, probably massive leaks, or it was on upside down. Jim

I have problems when my snore rate is over 5.0....

It looks like the FF Mask was doing fine except for the snore factor. It kinda look like you had a freight train going by your bed. The ff Mask may have need a little more pressure to overcome the snores, What FF Mask is it? I find my F & P 431 does worse on snores than my Comfortfull, about 3 times higher AHI. Jim

I had the same problem with my full face mask. Snore index was always in the hundreds, dropped to 30 with the Swift interface.

My theory was that I didn't worry too much about keeping my mouth closed with the full face mask. So I probably snored much louder when I did snore, plus the big mask probably lets the noise bounce around in there, confusing the CPAP.

The really bad part was that my Respironics C-flex auto tended to keep pressure at maximum much of the night due to the false snores.

With the Swift I've learned to keep my mouth shut, snore is about 30, and my average pressure stays about 4 points below the max setting which lets me sleep better.
