Travel CPAPs

Post by bulldog » Fri Aug 11, 2006 12:52 pm

I tried to find info under search but nothing came up so I will leave it to you guys.

I am trying to decide which Travel type CPAP machine I want to purchase for traveling and as a back up machine in case I have a problem with my main unit. Has anyone used any of these machines or do you have any suggestions? I have looked at the adds on CPAP.COM until they all ran together so I need some opinions.
Thank you,
Bobby

Bulldog,

I have a Resmed S8 Compact with H3i humidifier and I find it relatively light and portable for travel. Both the machine and the humidifier come in their own padded and reinforced zippered cases and I discovered that they, along with my mask, hose and other equipment, fit easily in a Tumi shoulder bag intended for a laptop.

It was the machine the doctor suggested when I told him that I needed to travel with it regularly, so you may want to take a look.

Good luck!

I thought that my PB 420G was a much better size for travelling, compared to my current Remstar M Series Auto. But if you're satisfied with your current Remstar, why not go with the same brand, despite the size difference?

I previously travelled with my Resmed S7 + H2i and while it was manageable it was definitely a bit of a nuisance for shorter trips, but the S8 + H3i is a great travel CPAP!

Now the S7 stays by my bedside at home and the S8 is packed and ready to go whenever I travel.

Cheers,

Bill

2 cents

I'll add my two cents:

I think that the ResMed S8 (any of them) is a GREAT travel xPAP. I have the S8 AutoSet Vantage, which comes with a VERY SLICK royal blue carry case about the size and shape of a modern laptop briefcase. I'm not sure whether the S8 Compact comes with the carry case. I'm pretty sure that the S8 Elite does.

If you'r eplanning for incidental travel, then I'd opt for a CPAP at your titrated pressure, and in that case, ResMed air is the same as Respironics air is the same as P-B air. If you plan on getting an APAP, then stick with the algoritm that you know and like the best, or if you are NOT satisfied with your current auto, then use this opportunity to try another manufacturer's.

For travel purposes, you can't beat the S8 line though, IMHO.

Just my 2cents.
