I finally got my Activa from my DME. I have been using an F&P HC 405 on loan until the Activa arrived. The mask fits so much better, and is far more comfortable, which is nice. But I am surprised how much airflow is going out the exhalation ports all the time. Even when I am inhaling or not moving air at all, what seems like a excessive amount of air is blowing out the exhalation port. My pressure is set at 10.
Is this normal for the Activa mask?
Thanks,
Joel
Activa Airflow
Joel,
I, too, was initially surprised and concerned by the amount of airflow out of the Activa's ports. In fact, after the first night, I called my DME to make sure that it was normal and that I hadn't put the mask together incorrectly. I found the mask to be very comfortable, but because of the airflow, a little noisy. Maybe in the warm weather it will be advantageous for you to have some extra blowing!
Good luck!

It is quite normal for a lot of air to come out of the exhalation.
Prior to the Activa, I had the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask and I thought that was a lot but nothing compared to the Activa. Depending on how I angle the hose, I sometimes wake up in the night with a very cold arm (like it's been in a fridge) where the air has been blowing continously onto it.
If you have the software for your machine or have the ability to get stats from the console you can check the leak rate there. Usually mine is around 0.26 on average.

You can see and compare the passive exhalation flow of the Activa here:

+ Aussie heated hose.

yeah it got me on the amount of air that comes out of the exhaust, what wakes me up is when i move the sheets a little and they get right under the ports, it sounds like a jet engine lol, and of course i gotta rearrange the sheets so i can get some rest, but i hate to admit it since i'm kinda against resmed but the activa is prolly one of the best nasal masks out there. hopefully somebody else comes out with a compararble design.

I'm not familiar with what the passive exhalation flow means. Can you explain what the numbers in this table are saying?oldgearhead wrote:You can see and compare the passive exhalation flow of the Activa here:
