how many people have that have sleep apnea have rem sleep without the mask
my sleep doctor seems to think that i have sleep apnea cause ihave constant nightmares and i snore very rarely (pretty much only when I've been drinking) anyway, I don't have any air masks, but he put me on a blood pressure medication to stop the rem sleep and the dreams, which it does. I hope that helps.
Re: dreaming
During my sleep study I never got into rem sleep until the second half of the study with the mask on.geomak12000 wrote:how many people have that have sleep apnea have rem sleep without the mask

That's weird that you all are having your dreams.... I remember my dreams before I found out I have OSA. Now that I have been on cpap (granted, it's only been 1 week) I don't recall having any dreams... as of yet.
Hmmm..... I wonder why? Am I that sound asleep now that I don't remember dreaming at all? Is that at all possible?

Laughter never killed anyone..... Go ahead, laugh! It's good for you!!

Someone noted elsewhere that sleep apneas are usually greatest during REM sleep, so yes, I guess you can dream when you have OSA. Before the CPAP, I would only dream if I slept more than seven or eight hours. I also felt worst if I slept that long. I actually felt better if I slept seven hours or less.

I had 0% REM sleep during sleep study.
I wonder if before starting CPAP, our sleep is so crappy that your exhausted and end up slipping into REM. Maybe not often, but once in a while. Because I used to dream a lot, but in the past 12 years or so not much.
Kind of disturbing because I'm dreaming all of this repressed stuff from when my mom died 13 years ago...
Something to talk about, anyway.

before i had cpap,i stopped dreaming. now i much more rested and sleep7-8hours without waking. i had vivid dreams but they were side effects of some of the medication i was taking. many medication side effeects are wivid, bizzare dreams.
medications for depression are high on the list for unwanted bizzare dreaming.

Yeah, it must be the medication...I take for depression, anxiety, insomnia, and now to put me into REM sleep. It does make for some interesting lucid dreams!vlblose wrote:before i had cpap,i stopped dreaming. now i much more rested and sleep7-8hours without waking. i had vivid dreams but they were side effects of some of the medication i was taking. many medication side effeects are wivid, bizzare dreams.

dreaming was more frequent and bothersome before cpap. My O2 sat would drop into the forties, which I think has a lot to do with dreaming. When I was a little guy in elementary school some friends of mine found it fun to hyperventalate then stand up quickly and pass out, I tried it once and had the most vivid adventurous dream that seemed like it lasted for more than several hours, but it was only a couple of seconds in reality. So, I know that O2 saturation has a lot to do with dreaming. As does medicine. Malaria pills if you go to jungle or someplace, cause vivid dreams, as well as some blood pressure meds.
I have been using cpap for a little over a year now. I typically only am awakened by a dream once during the night. It used to be several times before cpap treatment. I also feel that dreams are a means whereby your body tells you it needs something and you better wake up and take care of that need. Like going to pee or poop. I get lots more deep delta wave sleep with cpap, and less rem, but always some rem before I awake. The more vivid and disturbing the dream, usually the worse I need to pee, but it can also signal to me that it is simply time to get up if it is closer to the time that I arise. These are just my theories...
