Which mask do you suggest?

Post by imsotired » Thu Aug 03, 2006 10:30 am

The one they gave me at the sleep study was the Respironics ComfortClassic Nasal. As long as insurance is going to be billed if I choose to use the DME I might as well get another mask. My insurance allowance is $118.00 and I'm not sure if that allowance is what they pay or if they pay the 50% of that as that is my copay. Anyhow I'd like to get a different type of mask so I'll have choices. I'm thinking the Breeze, the Respironics ComfortCurve, or some type a full face mask. I'm concerned about what will happen when I have a cold and my nose is all stuffed up and need to mouth breath. Please make suggestions.

If you can get it fit your face, the Hybrid is very good.

I am probably not a good one to ask but what the heck.

I started with an Ultra Mirage Full Face mask. Not bad at all. Did my study with it and started at home with it.

Tried the Swift and loved it. I am sure from what I hear that there are other really good ones (comfort classic 2 seems to have quite a following and one of the F and P ones I read a lot about)

But since I am a creature of habit, I am sticking with the Swift for now.

That's like asking what car should I drive. Everyone is different.
I wear a Hybrid, but you may like the Breeze or NasalAire II or Aura... everone is different

I guess I'd like to know which are better for when your nose is stuffy and also a few that are good for side sleeping.

I think the full face masks are good for those occasions when you're stuffy, and they work good for side-sleeping.

Best wishes,

Ultra Mirage Full Face mask. I've been using one happily for right at 18 months now.

This therapy works! OK, so there have been a few less than happy nights, but most are very good.

I have not had too much luck seriously side sleeping with my swift. Somehow I think others have done better (from posts I have read). I don't mind (or try too hard to side sleep) since I am a back sleeper and slightly twisted towards the side.

One thing I have found with nasal pillows is that I am MUCH LESS congested than I ever was in the past.

I was a mouth breather and now with that air being pumped up my nose, I am clear all night.

I was a nasal spray junkie for years and oral antihist taker after that and now I take nothing and spray nothing.

I didn't feel quite as good with the full face mask. I felt more compulsion to mouth breath like the old days.

But we are all different.

What did you use in your sleep study? Did you like it?

I used the Respironics ComfortClassic and it worked fine but I never tried any other position than my back because I never woke up at all to move.

Does the Swift Nasal Pillow system include the headgear?

The $114 price on cpap.com includes the headgear, shorthose, barrell etc, three pillows (small, med and large) and the carry case -- the whole thing (I have bought a couple of these from Cpap.com since I am concerned about the price hikes by Resmed and for me the swift is good). Pillows are $30 each, so be sure about the size and if you like it before you order more. $30 is crazy for a piece of silicone.

Now all I have to spring for is extra pillows. I didn't want too many of them in my personal stock in case the silicone degrades over time.

What I do have is sealed in ziplock and out of sunlight.

I also have the Ultramirage ff mask for those stuffy colds just in case. I have a med from the sleep study and a small I let the insurance pay for. I still can't figure out which is the best fit.

But I don't use it much.

I plan to try a hybred in Nov since my insurance will get me one then (20%) and it is still in this year when my deductable has been met. I plan at some point to try a comfort lite 2 pillow system but haven't gotten there yet. That will be on my money since it is $80 something.

Jeeze, I just thought of another question. Can you use any brand mask with any brand CPAP? They are all interchangable?

Hi,

I asked a similar question a couple of days ago (thanks to all who replied to my post) and 5 people recommended the Resmed Activa, 2 the breeze and others recommended cpap-pro,swift, ultramirage II, HC406 and Hans Rudolph.

I have a F&P HC407 and I am not happy with it.

I was ready to buy the activa, but when I went into the cpap.com web page and took my measurements, they don't recommend it for me so now i guess I'm still in the search for a good mask.

Good luck with your search.

Best,
Guido
