Love When Things Fall Into Place - Not OT

Post by kteague » Sat May 20, 2017 2:39 am

Had one of those moments today. Recently returned from a trip across the country. It was not in the plans or the budget, and beyond what I thought I was physically capable of pulling off, but my stepson had asked me to come while he is still able to communicate. He said he wanted to look in my face and tell me he loves me. He has advanced ALS and the doctors are beginning to talk Hospice. My heart has been heavy, as I knew when I left him I will likely not see him again. I've seen firsthand their struggle as she works full time as a CNA then comes home and takes care of him. He has one of those ventilator type cpaps that he uses 24/7, and I noticed how uncomfortable his nasal mask looked - so tightly fitted with plastic straps indenting his face and causing sweating under it. His wife mentioned she wished they could get a mask like she saw in a picture. The picture looked like a ResMed Swift. I was scheming. planning to get it for him as soon as I could, though my own mask of a few years had been glued and taped beyond efficient function. Got a message from a friend who was spring cleaning, and wanted to get rid of her husband's old machine, a ResMed S8 Compact. Told her if I couldn't use it I'd give it to someone who could. You know where this is going... when I picked up the machine it was in a suitcase. Found that a bit odd, till I opened it and out spilled several new and unopened hoses and 4 new Swift masks. Already got a package ready to be shipped tomorrow. Sometimes it's those little things that are a ray of sunshine breaking through the dark clouds.

Sorry to hear what you are going though Kathy. We had a very good friend that died from ALS a couple years ago. In her case it came on very fast.

The other night, our washing machine broke down. Funds are short, so me and the wife prayed a quick prayer for a solution. She was on the phone with the department store where we bought it from, to get a repair man to fix it. The department store man wanted the invoice number off the receipt. I had to dig out the receipt from the back of the closet. I realized I had purchase a repair warranty and it expires next December (not last month! ). I NEVER buy the warranties! I don't know what I was thinking when I bought that warranty! I feel that I (the customer) shouldn't have to pay a company to warranty the product THEY make.

The power of prayer!

I'm sure we disappoint God when he gives us blessings we ignore.

i know that Skype or the Facebook video messaging are not the same as holding a hand and feeling the warmth. But they do help. If you haven't looked into them already please do!

O soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleas'd eyes, embower'd from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine

.
A sad story but in a way, very uplifting. It's all about the little miracles. Hugs.
