Fine white powder in used machine

Post by klv329 » Sun May 07, 2017 6:31 am

Picked up a used Aircurve a few months ago and was curious about a fine white powder around the intake. After closer inspection, it had fine white powder wiped from around the inside walls around the humidifier housing.

After taking it apart, there is white powder hardened around the inside intake of the blower motor that can be chipped off with a paper clip.

This machine came with an oxygen climate line tube, so I assume the prior user used oxygen.

It looks like somebody may have blown baking soda through the machine. Or might it have something to do with oxygen usage? I dunno. Any ideas? Maybe an ill conceived cleaning attempt of some sort?

The machine works fine, but I don't want to use it with that motor and motor housing.

Could it be scale as from not using distilled water? I have a very tiny amount of something whitish in mine that I see when I pull out the water chamber..I do use distilled water 100% of the time but I wash it in regular water and am wondering if putting it back into the machine before it's dry could cause scaling over time.
Best,
Jan

I wondered about that, too. There was a lot of it in the air intake and in the motor and motor housing, so I suspect it came in through air intake. I hope thete wasn't any water inside the motor and other electronics like the computer board....yikes!

Baking soda may have been used in an attempt to remove smoke odor.
Baking soda + vinegar will bubble or foam. Just a pinch of powder and a drop of vinegar is all you need.
If you suspect cocaine, take it to the police dept. for testing.
Be ready to share contact info for the seller.

Only if the XPAP has a reverse gear on the blower, powder around the intake, shouts dirty room or air. maybe you need to clean it and replace the filters, run it in a clean air, then use inline filters until the problem passes. If it keeps up, find what in your house is causing it. Jim

The previous owner may have had a ultrasonic humidifier, using tap water, they will fill the room with limestone dust. Ect!

smoker trying to clean the machine, nothing rises from the water in the chamber to get into the machine, no matter how hard the water is.

If its a used machine that you likely cannot return then open it up and go over it with an electronic compressed gas air cleaner, wiping out the intakes with a wet cloth.

It's just caked in there. The plastic is supposed to be clear.

The motor doesn't turn as freely as it should.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

it's called "dust" it floats in the air.

it's fine, because the coarse particles were caught in the filter.

it could very well have been mineral deposits from having an ultrasonic humidifier in the room, and not using distilled water in that.

it wouldn't be anything from the humidifier in the machine.

Since our tap water is very hard, I only used distilled water in my ultrasonic humidifier
(That I used at work)

Well it's filthy compared to clean used one. I'll have to figure out how to use imgur. Oh well, I'm sure I can absorb any dust it kicks out.

the only time when it's appropriate to use the "img" tag is when the link is to an actual image, something that ends in .png .gif .jpg, etc, not to a web page that just happens to have an image on it somewhere, like the one you linked to.
