I think I spoke too soon yesterday afternoon after I took a two hour nap with this mask. I was exhausted and fell right to sleep, later thinking this mask was a keeper. Last night I felt like I was not getting enough air through the nasal opening, and the mask was very loud. My Airsense 10 indicated a good seal. After numerous attempts at adjustment, I switched out the Amara View for the Air Fit N10 that I had used in my sleep study. I had really liked this nasal mask but decided I needed a full face mask because during the study, I had a problem all night with dryness, air rushing into my mouth, etc. After making the swap last night, the feeling of relief was immediate! I was getting plenty of air and went right to sleep. Unfortunately, the same problems with dryness, etc. occurred and I was awakened many times (humidity was fine but air rush into mouth had a drying effect).
I would like to make a nasal mask work if there's any way possible to stop the dry mouth problem. A friend of mine uses a ResMed Wisp in combination with this chin strap: http://www.breathewear.com/Deluxe_Chin_ ... /dx103.htm and he's satisfied. Have any of you tried this chin strap or something similar and did it make the use of a nasal mask more tolerable? I think I have a month under Medicare to make up my mind, so I'm open to experimentation. Don't really want to resort to duck tape, but it would almost be worth it to be able to use a nasal mask! thanks

Re: Tried Amara View First Time Last Night
I totally can relate to your feeling of not being able to get enough air with the Amara. I think that is because all the pressure is around the mouth and not spread out like other full face masks. When I take off the Amara and put on my Quattro FX I immediately feel like I can breathe better.
I too have a terrible time with a dry mouth with both of these masks. I recently got the Biotene gel and use it before going to bed but I really feel no benefit from it. I am very tempted also to try just a nasal mask with a chin strap. I know people on here also recommend using a soft cervical collar to help keep the mouth closed. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Re: Tried Amara View First Time Last Night
I also used the Amara View for the first time last night, and my experience was really good. I found I achieved a good seal with this mask with much looser settings than with my prior mask, the ResMed Quattro. On the Quattro, getting a seal around my eyes was always challenging, but I finally figured it out. With the Amara View, no leaks was easily achieved. I checked my SleepyHead results versus prior results and noticed no significant differences. Range for tidal volume same, range for IPAP very similar. I can, however, see that size fitting and centering of the nasal area have to be right, or one might not get the same volume of air through the nose piece. But for me, I'm going to try a few more nights, but I think I've found my new mask. Since I'm a night reader with glasses, this is a real benefit.

Re: Tried Amara View First Time Last Night
I have used the Quattro FX for several years. Recently I was watching a video on youtube about it. Never realized until watching it that the mask should actually sit mid way on the bridge of your nose. I was originally fitted for a small and ended up going to a medium as I always felt like my mouth was falling out of the mask. Maybe part of the problem was I was putting it too high on my face. Maybe correct positioning would help with the leaks around the eyes. This is where the video shows it should sit on the face.Citation4444 wrote:I also used the Amara View for the first time last night, and my experience was really good.
